Mini Split 18,000 BTU Gree Livo 20 SEER2 Heat Pump System LIV18HP230V1R32AO, LIV18HP230V1R32AH

Eighteen thousand BTU is where the Livo R32 series moves from single-room equipment to open-space equipment. The LIV18HP230V1R32AO condenser and larger LIV18HP230V1R32AH air handler produce 18,000 BTU/h of cooling at 95°F and a notably strong 19,100 BTU/h of heating at 47°F, earning 20 SEER2 and 12.4 EER2 — efficiency in the same class as the 9,000 BTU models at twice the capacity. The head steps up to 282–618 CFM of airflow and 3.80 pints per hour of dehumidification, and the line set grows to 1/4 inch by 1/2 inch with runs to 82 feet. A wireless LCD remote is included and Wi-Fi is standard.

Sizing an 18,000 BTU Head to an Open Space

A ton and a half is the first Livo R32 capacity genuinely suited to combined living areas — a great room, a kitchen and dining space that flow together, or a large finished basement. Its heating output is the standout figure: 19,100 BTU/h at 47°F actually exceeds its 18,000 BTU cooling rating, which makes it a strong choice where heating rather than cooling drives the annual load.

The larger the space, the more air distribution matters relative to raw capacity. Ceiling height, the position of the head relative to the room's long axis, furniture that blocks return airflow, and the location of major glazing all influence whether the space feels evenly conditioned. Insulation, air infiltration, roof exposure, and occupant and appliance heat gain still set the underlying load. Electrically this model remains modest for its size: 9.5 A in both cooling and heating, a 13 A minimum circuit ampacity, and a 15 A suggested breaker.

Ideal for: Great rooms, combined kitchen and dining areas, large finished basements, open-plan apartments and lofts, small commercial storefronts, restaurant dining rooms, and heating-dominant climates where winter capacity matters most.

Need more capacity? Step up to the 24,000 BTU Gree Livo 19 SEER2 Heat Pump System, which also extends the maximum line length to 131 feet.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, room layout and air distribution, glazing, ceiling height, ambient conditions, occupancy, and internal heat gain. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

This matched pair carries AHRI certification 214780395. The 70.6 lb condenser ships with a 32.5 oz R-32 charge covering 25 feet of line set, adding 0.2 oz per foot beyond. Note the change in piping at this capacity: flare connections become 1/4 inch liquid and 1/2 inch gas, total pipe length extends to 82 feet, and maximum elevation difference is 33 feet. The indoor cabinet also grows to 37-1/8 x 13-7/64 x 9-11/16 in. at 28.7 lb, so verify wall space and clearances before ordering. Wi-Fi is included and the optional XE71 wired controller interface is available.

Specifications & Manuals

Confirm piping size against the submittal before ordering copper — this capacity requires a 1/4" and 1/2" insulated copper line set rather than the 3/8 inch gas line used on 9K and 12K systems. Additional lengths and kit options are on our ductless copper lines and kits page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the 18,000 BTU model need a different line set than the 12,000 BTU model?

Higher capacity moves more refrigerant mass, and an undersized suction line creates pressure drop that costs capacity and efficiency. Gree specifies 1/4 inch liquid and 1/2 inch gas for this model, versus 1/4 by 3/8 on the 9K and 12K systems. Reusing an existing 3/8 inch gas line from a smaller system is not acceptable.

How can heating capacity be higher than the nameplate cooling capacity?

In heating mode the compressor's own work adds to the heat delivered indoors, and the refrigeration cycle operates at different conditions than the cooling rating point. This model is rated 18,000 BTU/h cooling at 95°F but 19,100 BTU/h heating at 47°F, which is why it suits heating-dominant climates particularly well.

What is the maximum height difference between the two units?

Maximum pipe elevation for this model is 33 feet — the tightest limit in the series. If the condenser must sit on the ground and the head is going on a third floor, or vice versa, verify the vertical separation against the submittal, or consider the 24,000 BTU model which allows 82 feet.

Will one head cover a great room with a cathedral ceiling?

It can, but stratification works against you. Warm air collects at the peak in heating mode, so mounting height, louver aim, and sometimes a ceiling fan on low make a real difference. Volume rather than floor area should drive the load calculation in vaulted spaces, which occasionally pushes the selection to the next size up.

Does the larger indoor unit need more wall clearance?

Yes. The cabinet grows to 37-1/8 in. wide by 13-7/64 in. tall by 9-11/16 in. deep and weighs 28.7 lb, so it needs more continuous wall width than the 32-7/8 in. 9K and 12K heads and a mounting plate anchored into solid framing. Refer to the submittal for required clearances above, below, and to each side.

Is this system suitable for light commercial use?

Yes — a ton and a half serves small storefronts, salons, offices, and dining rooms well, and the Livo R32 warranty is stated for both residential and commercial application. Commercial spaces often have higher ventilation and occupancy loads than a home of the same size, so a proper load calculation is worth the time. Request sizing assistance if you would like help.
