Every Pro-Fit connection depends on one number: how far the tube goes into the fitting. The 87048 is the kit that makes that number repeatable and makes a joint reversible. It holds a four-step line-marking tool covering 1/4" through 5/8" and four disconnect clips, one for each of those sizes — five pieces that turn "push it in until it feels right" into a marked line and a verified seat, and that let you release a fitting later without cutting the lineset. If you stock Pro-Fit fittings at all, this is the kit that belongs on the van.
What the Support Kit Actually Solves
Insertion depth is the single most common failure point on a push-to-connect refrigerant joint. The seat varies by size — 1" at 1/4", 1-1/4" at 3/8" and 1/2", 1-5/16" at 5/8" — and a tube that stops short leaves the grip ring and O-rings off their sealing surfaces. A tape measure and a marker will do it, but not quickly and not consistently across a dozen connections. The line-marking tool slips over the prepared tube end and puts the mark in the right place every time.
The disconnect clips solve the other half. A Pro-Fit fitting is designed to release, but only with the correct clip pressing the collar — which is what makes it possible to rework a joint, swap a component, or correct a routing mistake instead of cutting the fitting out. RectorSeal's instructions are firm on the sequence: the system must be isolated or pumped down before any fitting is disconnected.
