RectorSeal 87030 Pro-Fit 1/4" to 3/8" Quick Connect Reducer, Push-to-Connect Refrigerant Fitting
The RectorSeal 87030 joins 1/4" tubing to 3/8" tubing in a straight line, with a push-to-connect port at each end and nothing to braze, flare, swage, or tighten. It is the transition an installer reaches for when a lineset diameter changes mid-run — a repair section that came off a different roll, a replacement unit specifying a larger liquid line than the original, or an extension where the available tubing does not match what is already in the wall. Is a 1/4" to 3/8" Reducer the Right Fitting Here?
Line sizing is set by the equipment manufacturer for the run length, lift, and capacity involved — a reducer is for executing a transition the design already calls for, not for making the tubing you happen to have on the truck work. Check the equipment's installation manual before changing diameter anywhere in a run.
Where the transition is legitimate, the 87030 makes it in one component. The two ends seat to different depths — 1" on the 1/4" side, 1-1/4" on the 3/8" side — so set the marking tool separately for each tube rather than using one figure for both. Neither end has a nut and neither is tightened; the grip rings clamp as the tube goes in, and a firm pull on each side confirms it. About an inch and a half of clean straight tube on each approach is all the room the fitting needs.

Is the 87030 a straight reducer or an elbow?
A straight inline reducer. RectorSeal's catalog lists 87030–87032 as reducers and 87033–87035 as elbow reducers — the elbow reducers make the same size changes through a 90° turn.
What insertion depths do the two ends of the 87030 use?
1" on the 1/4" end and 1-1/4" on the 3/8" end. Set the marking tool separately for each tube — using one depth for both is the most common way a reducer ends up with a leg short of its sealing surfaces.
When would I need a 1/4" to 3/8" transition?
Typically on a repair where the replacement section is a different diameter than the original, or a changeout where the new equipment specifies a larger liquid line than the old one. Confirm against the equipment's installation manual before changing diameter mid-run.
Can the 87030 be used in either flow direction?
