RectorSeal 87035 Pro-Fit 1/2" to 5/8" Quick Connect Reducing 90° Elbow, Push-to-Connect Refrigerant Fitting

The 87035 is the largest reducing elbow RectorSeal offers, joining 1/2" to 5/8" through a fixed 90° turn. These are suction-side diameters, and the combination of a size step and a hard corner in heavy tubing is exactly the joint that is slowest to braze and most awkward to bend. The 87035 handles both in one brass body with a patented double O-ring and grip-ring seal at each port, rated to 870 psig and 250°F continuous, assembled with nothing but a tubing cutter, a deburring tool, and a depth gauge.

Is a 1/2" to 5/8" Reducing Elbow the Right Fitting Here?

Both sides of this fitting carry suction-line volume, which raises the cost of getting it wrong. At these diameters the tubing is stiff enough that a swept bend usually needs more room than the space allows, and adding a separate straight reducer in line makes the assembly longer still. The 87035 keeps the whole transition inside the footprint of one fitting.

The legs seat to different depths: 1-1/4" on the 1/2" side and 1-5/16" on the 5/8" side. The 1/16" difference is small enough to ignore by accident and large enough to leave a tube short of its sealing surfaces, so set the gauge separately for each leg. Neither leg is tightened. Support the tubing on both approaches — at 5/8" the line has enough mass that an unsecured run will work against the joint over time.

Ideal for: Suction-side transitions at a corner on multi-zone and light commercial systems, equipment changeouts where the new condenser calls for a larger suction line, mechanical closets with no room for a reducer and an elbow in series, and repairs that must change both diameter and direction in a short run.

What is the largest reducing elbow in the Pro-Fit line?

The 87035, stepping 1/2" to 5/8". RectorSeal does not make a reducing elbow above this — transitions involving 3/4" or 7/8" tubing have to be handled with conventional fittings.

How deep does each leg of the 87035 seat?

1-1/4" on the 1/2" leg and 1-5/16" on the 5/8" leg. The 1/16" difference is easy to overlook, so set the depth gauge separately for each tube rather than marking both to one figure.

Which support kit covers the 87035?

The 87048 kit, spanning 1/4" to 5/8". Because 5/8" is the top of that kit's range, both legs of this fitting are covered by the one kit.

Why does the 5/8" leg need a deeper insertion than the 1/2" leg?

Seat depth scales with diameter across the whole Pro-Fit range — larger tube means a longer engagement to bring the grip ring and both O-rings onto their sealing surfaces. The published depths run from 1" at 1/4" up to 1-9/16" at 7/8".

Can the 87035 join a 1/2" copper line to a 5/8" coated aluminum line?

Yes. Pro-Fit fittings are approved for copper and coated aluminum, and the two materials can meet in the same fitting provided each tube matches its port diameter and both ends are cut square, deburred, and unscored where the O-rings seat.

Does the 87035 replace both a reducer and an elbow?

Yes — it performs both functions in one body, which removes the intermediate nipple and two of the joints a conventional assembly would need. Where the run continues straight, the 87032 straight reducer handles the size change on its own.
