RectorSeal 87022 Pro-Fit 3/4" Quick Connect Union Coupling, Push-to-Connect Refrigerant Fitting
At 3/4" O.D., the RectorSeal 87022 sits at the large end of the Pro-Fit range, where linesets belong to multi-zone ductless systems, VRF branch piping, and light commercial split equipment rather than single-head residential units. Brazing a suction line this size means a long heat soak, a nitrogen purge, and a genuine fire risk when the line runs through a finished ceiling or a tenant space. The 87022 removes all of that: cut, deburr, push to the 1-1/2" insertion mark, and tug to confirm. The brass body carries the same 870 psig design pressure and 250°F continuous rating as every fitting in the line.
Is a 3/4" Union Coupling the Right Fitting for Your Lineset?
Three-quarter-inch tubing on a refrigeration or ductless system is almost always a suction line, and suction lines are where a failed joint costs the most — they carry the largest refrigerant volume and they are usually the hardest line to reach a second time. Confirm the measured outside diameter at the splice point before ordering, because 3/4" and 7/8" are easy to confuse by eye once insulation is stripped back.
Larger diameter also means a longer seat. The 87022 requires 1-1/2" of insertion on each side, the deepest of any union below 7/8", so plan for about three inches of straight, round, undamaged tubing at the joint. There is no tightening step to get wrong: the union has no nut, so the fitting is finished the moment both ends reach full depth and pass a firm tug test. That puts the entire burden on cut quality and insertion — square ends, a clean deburr, and no scoring where the O-rings land.
Ideal for: Multi-zone ductless suction lines, VRF branch and header piping, light commercial split system linesets, rooftop and mechanical-room runs where hot work permits apply, tenant-occupied retrofits, and repairs on large linesets buried in finished ceilings or chases.
Need the largest size? Step up to the RectorSeal 87023 Pro-Fit 7/8" Quick Connect Union Coupling, the largest diameter Pro-Fit covers, or move down to the 87021 5/8" union for mid-size suction lines.
Fitting selection is based on measured tube outside diameter and system operating conditions. Installation must be performed by an EPA 608-certified technician in accordance with RectorSeal's published instructions and applicable mechanical codes. Frequently Asked Questions
What applications call for a 3/4" Pro-Fit union like the 87022?
Three-quarter-inch tubing generally appears as the suction line on multi-zone ductless systems, VRF branch piping, and light commercial split equipment. On single-head residential mini splits this size is uncommon — verify the measured O.D. before ordering.
How far does 3/4" tubing seat inside the 87022?
1-1/2" on each side, which is deeper than any Pro-Fit union below it. Allow roughly three inches of straight, round, deburred tubing at the splice so both ends can reach full depth.
Does the 87022 need to be torqued after assembly?
No. Pro-Fit unions are push-to-connect with no nuts, so no wrench and no torque wrench are involved. The torque values printed on RectorSeal's data sheet belong to the flare-nut fittings — the sockets and service valves — which are only made in 1/4" through 5/8".
Does RectorSeal offer a disconnect clip that fits the 87022?
Yes. The 87049 Pro-Fit Support Kit covers the 3/4" and 7/8" sizes and includes the depth-marking gauge and disconnect clips sized for this fitting. The smaller 87048 kit covers 1/4" through 5/8" only.
Will the 87022 join a 3/4" copper line to a 3/4" coated aluminum line?
Yes. Pro-Fit fittings are approved for both copper and coated aluminum linesets, and the two can be joined in the same union as long as both measure 3/4" O.D. and both ends are cut square, deburred, and free of scoring where the O-rings seat.
How many 87022 unions come in a manufacturer case?
RectorSeal packages the Pro-Fit unions 10 per case. Service valves ship 5 per case and the support kits ship separately. Contact Budget Heating for case pricing on project quantities.
