Mueller Streamline 3/8" Liquid Line Filter Drier, 8 Cu In, Braze / Press Fit / Push Fit, RP16649

Whether your crew brazes, presses, or pushes copper together, the Mueller Streamline RP16649 (model SDP-083) is a liquid line filter drier that fits the job. This 8 cubic inch DRYMASTER® FTG x FTG drier has 3/8" OD stub ends that can be brazed in like a traditional drier. They also fit 3/8" press fit fittings, such as Streamline ACR Copper Press, or 3/8" push fit fittings for a torch-free installation. It's compatible with R-410A and other common refrigerants and oils, and it's the lightest drier in this series, which makes it a practical stock item for cooling-only split systems, condensing unit change-outs, and refrigeration liquid lines.

Who Is the 8 Cu In Liquid Line Drier For?

The RP16649 is built for straight liquid line service on air conditioners and refrigeration systems where refrigerant flows in one direction toward the metering device. At 0.767 lb with a 2.32" shell, it's the slimmest option in the series and fits tight condensing unit service valves and air handler cabinets.

Use the 8 cu in core on clean systems, routine component replacements, and new installs with a moderate refrigerant charge. Systems with a larger charge, long line sets, or signs of moisture or contamination are better served by the 16 cu in liquid line model.

Ideal for: Cooling-only split systems, condensing unit replacements, new construction installs, and light commercial refrigeration with 3/8" liquid lines.

Need more capacity? Step up to the Mueller Streamline 3/8" Liquid Line Filter Drier 16 Cu In, RP16653 for larger charges or heavier moisture and contaminant loads.

Drier sizing recommendations are general guidelines only. Actual requirements depend on system charge, refrigerant type, contamination level, and service conditions. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use the RP16649 on a heat pump?

The RP16649 is a liquid line drier for air conditioning and refrigeration circuits. For heat pumps that reverse flow, choose the RP17389 8 cu in bi-flow drier instead.

What does FTG x FTG mean on this filter drier?

FTG means both ends are fitting-sized, with the same outside diameter as 3/8" copper tube. That lets the drier go into a press fit or push fit fitting, or be brazed in.

How much does the RP16649 weigh?

Mueller lists the RP16649 at 0.767 lb, with an overall length of 8.16" and a 2.32" shell diameter.

Can I braze the RP16649 into a line the same way I would a standard drier?

Yes. The RP16649 can be brazed in like a standard liquid line filter drier. Follow your normal brazing practices, including protecting the drier shell from excess heat.

How fine does the RP16649 filter?

Its solid core captures particles as small as 25 microns while the desiccant absorbs moisture and acid from the refrigerant.

Is there a 3/8" 8 cu in liquid line drier with sweat sockets?

Yes. If you want the tube to slide into the drier, see the 3/8" sweat liquid line drier, 8 cu in.
