Mueller Streamline 3/8" Bi-Flow Heat Pump Filter Drier, 8 Cu In, Braze / Press Fit / Push Fit, RP17389

The Mueller Streamline RP17389 (model HPP-083) is an 8 cubic inch bi-flow heat pump filter drier from the DRYMASTER® FTG x FTG line. Its 3/8" OD fitting-size ends give you three installation options. You can braze it in like a standard drier, press it into 3/8" press fit fittings such as Streamline ACR Copper Press, or connect it with 3/8" push fit fittings for a flame-free install. It's rated for R-410A and other common refrigerants and oils, and it protects reversing heat pump circuits from moisture, acid and debris. It's a good fit for HVAC contractors servicing residential and light commercial heat pumps who want one drier that works with any joining method.

Is an 8 Cu In Bi-Flow Drier the Right Size?

The 8 cubic inch core is the compact choice for 3/8" liquid lines on heat pump systems that reverse flow between heating and cooling. It's a common pick for routine change-outs after compressor service, line set replacements, or opening a sealed system. In those jobs you need moisture and particle protection in both directions without a bulky shell.

The right core size depends on system charge, how much moisture or contamination got into the system, and whether you're cleaning up after a compressor burnout. A small, clean replacement usually calls for the 8 cu in core. A heavier contamination job is a better fit for the larger 16 cu in model.

Ideal for: Residential and light commercial heat pumps, ductless and split systems with 3/8" liquid lines, and techs who switch between brazed and flame-free connections.

Need more capacity? Step up to the Mueller Streamline 3/8" Bi-Flow Filter Drier 16 Cu In, RP17391 for heat pump systems that need more desiccant volume and contaminant holding capacity.

Drier sizing recommendations are general guidelines only. Actual requirements depend on system charge, refrigerant type, contamination level, and service conditions. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the RP17389 be installed in a heat pump that runs in both heating and cooling mode?

Yes. The RP17389 is a bi-flow heat pump filter drier, so it filters refrigerant moving in either direction as the reversing valve switches modes.

Can the RP17389 be brazed in, or does it require press or push fittings?

Either one works. The RP17389 can be brazed in like a standard filter drier, or installed flame-free with 3/8" press fit or push fit fittings.

Which push fitting works with the RP17389?

Any 3/8" push fit fitting sized for 3/8" OD copper will accept the FTG ends, such as the Mueller Streamline 3/8" Push Fitting Coupling ACP10143.

Is the RP17389 approved for R-410A?

Yes. Mueller lists it as compatible with R-410A and other commonly used refrigerant gases and oils.

When should I choose the 16 cu in bi-flow drier instead?

Choose the 16 cu in RP17391 when you need more desiccant volume, for example on a larger charge or a heavier cleanup after a system was opened or contaminated.

Is there an 8 cu in bi-flow drier with sweat sockets instead of FTG ends?

Yes. If you'd rather slide the tube into the drier, see the 3/8" sweat bi-flow heat pump drier, 8 cu in.
