The MHK2 replaces a handheld infrared remote with a real wall thermostat. It is a complete two-piece kit: the MRCH2 backlit touchscreen controller that mounts on the wall wherever people actually are, and the MIFH2 RedLINK receiver that ties into the indoor unit through the included MRC2 cable at the CN105 connector. The controller reads ambient temperature and relative humidity at the wall rather than at the equipment, runs a full programmable schedule across four daily periods, switches automatically between heating and cooling, and communicates over RedLINK 3.0 at up to 200 feet in typical homes. Compatible with all Mitsubishi M-Series, P-Series and CITY MULTI indoor units — wall-mount heads, SLZ ceiling cassettes, ducted air handlers — on single-zone and multi-zone systems alike.
Is the MHK2 the Right Control for Your System?
Ductless equipment normally ships with a handheld remote that senses temperature at the indoor unit. That works, but it has two familiar problems: a wall-mounted head reads the air near the ceiling, and handheld remotes disappear. The MHK2 solves both by putting a fixed, wired-in-place thermostat on the wall at occupant level, where it senses the temperature that people actually feel. It is also the answer for equipment that arrives with no controller at all — SLZ ceiling cassettes ship without one, so every cassette zone needs a control selected separately, and the MHK2 is the option most customers recognize and prefer.
The important planning point is that the MHK2 is a per-zone control. The MIFH2 receiver connects to the CN105 connector on one indoor unit's control board, so each indoor unit needs its own dedicated controller and receiver. A four-cassette multi-zone project needs four MHK2 kits, not one. Because the connection is at the indoor unit rather than the condenser, single-zone and multi-zone systems wire up identically — the outdoor unit is not involved.
Ideal for: SLZ ceiling cassette zones that ship without a controller, primary bedrooms and living areas where a wall thermostat is expected, rental and short-term-stay properties where a handheld remote will not survive, light commercial spaces needing occupied and unoccupied scheduling, and any retrofit replacing a conventional wall thermostat with ductless equipment.
Controlling more than one zone? Order one kit per indoor unit. Multi-zone systems such as the 4 Zone Mitsubishi MXZ4D30NL and 5 Zone MXZ5D36NL need a kit for each zone you want thermostat-controlled.

One MHK2 kit controls one indoor unit. The MIFH2 receiver mounts adjacent to the indoor unit or inside its wireless interface pocket and draws power through the MRC2 cable, so no separate supply or C-wire is needed — the MRCH2 controller runs on its two AA batteries. Operating limits are 32°F to 120°F and 5 to 90 percent relative humidity for the controller, and -40°F to 165°F and 5 to 95 percent for the receiver, which is why the receiver can sit in unconditioned spaces. Note that RedLINK 3.0 is not backward compatible with earlier RedLINK 2.0 equipment.
