How is 230 feet of piping divided across five zones?
It is a combined allowance, not per zone. All five runs added together must stay within 230 feet, with no single run exceeding 82 feet and height difference capped at 49 feet either direction. That averages roughly 46 feet per zone, so condenser placement near the centre of the plan pays off on a five-zone job.
Why is connected capacity capped at 41,000 BTU/h with five zones available?
The ceiling protects performance. Five units averaging 8,200 BTU/h fit comfortably; five 12,000 BTU/h units would total 60,000 and far exceed it. The cap forces the design to match real room loads rather than defaulting to identical units — which is why the range of GX and SLZ capacities matters.
Can I mix cassettes and wall-mount heads on the same system?
Yes, freely. Each of the five zones is selected on its own, so a common pattern is cassettes in the living room and kitchen where wall space is scarce, and wall-mount heads in bedrooms. Remember that cassette zones need a controller chosen separately while GX heads arrive with a wireless remote in the box.
Can every room be set to a different temperature?
Yes for temperature — each indoor unit holds its own setpoint and fan speed. The system-level constraint is mode: all active zones must be in heating or all in cooling at any given time, since a single refrigerant circuit serves them.
