Mini Split Daikin VRV & SkyAir Wired Wall Controller Thermostat BRC1NRV71

The Daikin BRC1NRV71 is the current-generation Navigation Remote Controller, a hard-wired wall control that gives contractors and building owners full setpoint, mode, fan, schedule, and diagnostic access to Daikin VRV, VRV Life, SkyAir, and select single-zone and multi-zone indoor units. A single BRC1NRV71 addresses a group of up to 16 indoor units over Daikin's two-wire P1P2 communication bus, displays in English, Spanish, or French on a backlit LCD, and draws its 16 VDC power straight from the indoor unit — no separate transformer or thermostat wire bundle required.

Is the BRC1NRV71 the Right Controller for Your System?

Choosing a Daikin wall controller is a question of communication compatibility, not room size. The BRC1NRV71 talks to the indoor unit over Daikin's proprietary P1P2 protocol, so the deciding factor is whether your indoor unit appears on Daikin's published compatibility list: R-32 VRV models FXTA, FXFA, FXMA, FXSA, FXAA, and FXZA; VRV and VRV Life models FXAQ, FXDQ, FXEQ, FXFQ, FXHQ, FXLQ, FXMQ, FXMQ_MF, FXNQ, FXSQ, FXTQ, FXUQ, FXZQ, VAM, and CXTQ; SkyAir models FAQ, FBQ, FCQ, FHQ, FTQ, FAA, FBA, FCA, and FTA; and single-zone and multi-zone models FFQ, FDMQ, FFA, FDMA, and CDMA.

Beyond model match, plan the install around the control wiring and the sensing location. The controller accepts 18 AWG two-conductor stranded, non-shielded wire with no polarity, up to 1,640 feet total run, and it carries a built-in room temperature sensor with a configurable offset. If that internal sensor will be used for control, mount the unit where it reads average room air — away from direct sunlight, supply air, heat-producing equipment, and outside-air infiltration — and keep the control wire out of parallel runs alongside line-voltage circuits to avoid communication faults.

Ideal for: Offices, retail spaces, restaurants, medical suites, schools, and multi-tenant buildings running Daikin VRV or SkyAir equipment where staff need scheduled occupied/unoccupied control, and for residential and light-commercial ducted installs that want a permanent wall control instead of a handheld remote.

Need a different control method? Consider the Daikin AZAI6WSPDKC wireless interface if the job calls for app-based control or integration with a third-party wall thermostat rather than a Daikin-native wired controller.

Compatibility lists reflect Daikin's published submittal data and are a general guide only. Always confirm the exact indoor unit model number and existing controller wiring before ordering. Request free compatibility assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

Each BRC1NRV71 ships as a complete wall-mount kit: the controller with upper and lower case, two drywall screws, two drywall anchors, one wire tie, one wiring retainer, an operation manual, and an installation manual. The lower case is pre-notched for rear, left-side, top-left, or top-center wire entry, so the same box covers a retrofit into an existing wall penetration or a new switch-box mount using field-supplied machine screws or the optional KJB211A switch box accessory. Control wire and switch box are field supplied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Daikin indoor units accept the BRC1NRV71?

Daikin lists the BRC1NRV71 as compatible with R-32 VRV models (FXTA, FXFA, FXMA, FXSA, FXAA, FXZA), VRV and VRV Life models (FXAQ, FXDQ, FXEQ, FXFQ, FXHQ, FXLQ, FXMQ, FXMQ_MF, FXNQ, FXSQ, FXTQ, FXUQ, FXZQ, VAM, CXTQ), SkyAir models (FAQ, FBQ, FCQ, FHQ, FTQ, FAA, FBA, FCA, FTA), and single-zone and multi-zone models FFQ, FDMQ, FFA, FDMA, and CDMA. Verify your exact model number before ordering.

How many indoor units can one BRC1NRV71 operate?

Up to 16 indoor units in a single group. Within that group you can also run two BRC1NRV71 controllers — one designated main and one sub — which is useful when a space needs control at two entry points.

What control wire does the BRC1NRV71 require?

Non-shielded, two-conductor, stranded copper wire in 18 AWG, with a maximum total length of 1,640 feet (500 m). The P1 and P2 terminals are not polarity sensitive. Avoid routing the control wire parallel to or near line-voltage circuits to prevent electrical noise and communication errors.

Does this controller need its own power supply or batteries?

No. The indoor unit supplies 16 VDC through the same two communication conductors, drawing 1.58 VA maximum. A separate battery maintains the clock and calendar for up to 48 hours so programmed schedules survive a short power interruption.

Can the BRC1NRV71 share a group with another BRC-series controller?

No. Daikin states the BRC1NRV71 cannot be combined with other BRC-type controller models, and it cannot be assigned as the sub controller when paired with a non-BRC-type controller. Pair it only with a second BRC1NRV71 when two controllers are needed. Contractors comparing wall controls may also want to review the Daikin BRC1E73 wired wall controller for older SkyAir installations.

Where should the controller be mounted in the space?

Install it on a flat interior wall in a location that senses average room temperature, out of direct sunlight, away from heat sources, and shielded from outside air. Avoid kitchens and other areas with oil mist or vapor, spaces with corrosive gas, locations near equipment emitting electromagnetic interference, and any damp area exposed to water.
