2.5 Ton EcoTemp 14.3 SEER2 R454B Heat Pump Wall Mount Apartment/Condo Type System W5H5S30AKAAA, FMA5L3000AL
For larger apartment and condo floor plans, this EcoTemp package pairs the W5H5S30AKAAA R-454B heat pump with the FMA5L3000AL wall-hung fan coil. It provides 30,000 BTU of nominal heating and cooling with an AHRI-certified 14.3 SEER2 rating (AHRI #214424162). This is the first size in the FMA5 line to use the larger 22" wide cabinet and a 1/3 HP PSC blower. It is a good fit for owners and contractors who need more airflow for two-bedroom units, open-concept layouts or units with lots of glass.
Is a 2.5 Ton Heat Pump System the Right Size?
A 2.5 ton system matches homes and units with a heating and cooling load around 30,000 BTU per hour. In multifamily buildings it is common where a 2 ton system struggles to hold temperature: large living rooms with sliding glass doors, top-floor units under a hot roof, or end units with extra exterior wall.
Going bigger than you need has trade-offs. An oversized heat pump removes less humidity in summer and cycles more often. Look at insulation, window orientation, floor level, ductwork to secondary rooms and the number of occupants. Then confirm with the tonnage and BTU calculator.
Ideal for: Two-bedroom apartments, larger condos, top-floor and corner units, and replacement of existing 2.5 ton wall-hung fan coil systems.
Need more capacity? Step up to the 3 Ton EcoTemp 14.5 SEER2 R454B Heat Pump Wall Mount System W5H5S36AKAAA, FMA5L3600AL, which fits the same 22" cabinet footprint.
Recommended system sizes are general guidelines only. Actual requirements depend on climate, insulation, unit location within the building, window exposure, occupancy, and installation conditions. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The W5H5S30AKAAA has a 3/4" vapor valve and a 3/8" liquid connection. At 70 dBA it is the quietest model in the W5H5S lineup, and 67 dBA with the optional sound blanket. Inside, the FMA5L3000AL measures 39-1/2" H x 22" W x 19" D and uses a 1/3 HP PSC blower rated at 1,130 CFM nominal. It takes a standard 20" x 20" x 1" filter, which is easier to stock across a building than an odd-size filter. A 50 ft. 3/4 & 3/8 copper line set covers longer runs from ground-level pads to upper floors. Optional 5, 7.5 or 10 kW breakered heat kits are available on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does a 2.5 ton heat pump make more sense than a 2 ton for an apartment?
Choose 2.5 tons when the unit's load clearly exceeds 24,000 BTU, which is common in two-bedroom layouts, top-floor units and units with large window walls. If the load is borderline, the 2 ton W5H5S24AKAAA system may control humidity better.
How is the 2.5 ton FMA5L3000AL cabinet different from the 2 ton model?
The FMA5L3000AL is 39-1/2" H x 22" W x 19" D, compared with 36-1/2" x 20-1/2" x 15" for the 2 ton FMA5L2400AL. Measure the closet before upsizing from a 2 ton fan coil. The larger cabinet holds a 1/3 HP blower and a larger coil.
What filter does the FMA5L3000AL fan coil take?
The FMA5L3000AL uses a 20" x 20" x 1" field-installed filter. Keeping the filter clean protects airflow and coil performance, which matters most in rental units, where filter changes are easy to miss.
Can the W5H5S30AKAAA heat pump be installed on a roof or upper level?
Yes, within the published limits. The W5H5S30AKAAA allows up to 200 ft. actual line length, 250 ft. total equivalent length, and up to 200 ft. of vertical separation with the outdoor unit above the indoor unit. Past the long-line thresholds in the spec sheet, long-line accessories are required.
Does the FMA5L3000AL have a refrigerant leak sensor?
Yes. Because the system uses A2L R-454B refrigerant, the FMA5L3000AL includes a refrigerant leak detection system as standard, so the system operates safely within current safety standards.
What warranty comes with the W5H5S30AKAAA and FMA5L3000AL?
The outdoor unit includes a 1-year unit replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, including the compressor and coil. Both the heat pump and the fan coil extend to 10 years of parts coverage when registered within 90 days of installation, where registration is allowed. See the warranty certificate for full terms.
