Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this sensor have an 8-foot lead instead of 5 feet?
Because of where it has to reach. On a cased-coil system the sensor lives inside the coil but the control running the mitigation logic is in the furnace or in an integration kit mounted outside the coil, so the harness has to leave the coil cabinet and travel to that board. The larger AMVT cabinets need the same reach internally. Air handlers with the board close to the drain pan use the 5-foot SER2A05012S.
I'm putting a Goodman R-32 coil on an older gas furnace. Is the sensor all I need?
No. The sensor detects, but something has to act on the detection. An older furnace board has no A2L sensor input and no mitigation routine, so you also need a furnace integration kit, which gives the sensor a home and runs the required shutdown-and-purge sequence. If a zoning panel is part of the system, the A2L zoning control kit fills the same role. Wire the sensor before energizing either one.
My Goodman furnace is showing an EAL code. What does that mean?
EAL is the code an A2L-equipped Goodman furnace board displays while it is in leak mitigation mode. Gas heat is locked out and the blower is running at maximum CFM. It means the board is either seeing refrigerant or cannot get a valid reading from the sensor. Check for an actual leak first, then confirm the sensor is seated and plugged in, then read the board's flash pattern to see whether it is reporting a communication fault or a failed sensor.
Does replacing this sensor require recovering the refrigerant charge?
No. The sensor sits in the airstream inside the cabinet and is not part of the sealed refrigerant circuit, so a straightforward swap does not involve breaking into the system. It comes off the bracket on push pins and unplugs from the board. If you are on site because of an actual leak rather than a failed sensor, that repair is a separate job — and A2L refrigerant requires A2L-compatible recovery equipment and R-32 refrigerant to recharge.
Which AMVT air handlers take this sensor and which take the shorter one?

Can the A2L sensor function be disabled?
A2L-equipped Goodman furnace boards do include a menu setting that turns the A2L function off, intended for the case where an R-32-ready furnace is installed with R-410A equipment that has no A2L sensor. It is not a workaround for a faulty sensor on an R-32 system. Any system charged with R-32 is required to have a functioning refrigerant detection system, so on R-32 equipment the correct fix is replacing the sensor, not disabling the monitoring.
