Rheem 25 Ton R-454B Commercial Packaged Air Conditioner — RACGYB300ADG000BACA0

Specified on 460V three-phase service, the Rheem RACGYB300ADG000BACA0 puts 284,000 Btu/h of AHRI net cooling on the roof while drawing a minimum circuit ampacity of just 62 amps. That is less than half the current of the same cabinet wired for 208/230V, which translates directly into smaller feeders, smaller conduit, a smaller disconnect and shorter voltage-drop headaches on the long roof runs that come with large buildings. It is the configuration engineers reach for on manufacturing plants, distribution centers, schools, hospitals and multi-unit rooftop arrays where 480V service is already distributed across the building.

Is a 25-Ton Package Unit the Right Size?

Capacity is identical to the 208/230V version of this cabinet — 300,000 Btu/h gross, 284,000 Btu/h AHRI net, 10.0 EER and 13.2 IEER at 10,000 nominal CFM. Voltage changes the electrical infrastructure feeding the unit, not the cooling it delivers. The question is whether 25 tons is the right block of capacity for the zone being served.

Large-footprint buildings typically reach this size through sheer volume of conditioned air and ventilation rather than through a single concentrated load. Warehouse offices, production floors, school commons, gymnasiums, lab and clean-adjacent space, and big-box retail all carry long duct runs and high static pressure, which is where the standard Variable Frequency Drive on the supply fan earns its place: it runs the blower at reduced speed during first-stage cooling and constant-fan operation, trimming energy use and noise while improving part-load dehumidification. Ceiling height, roof and wall insulation, process equipment, occupancy schedules and outside-air requirements all belong in the load calculation before the tonnage is locked in.

Ideal for: Manufacturing and production floors, warehouse and distribution facilities, schools and university buildings, hospitals and medical office buildings, big-box retail, and any large commercial site where 460V three-phase service is already distributed to the roof.

Need less capacity on the same service? Step down to the 20 Ton Rheem RACGYB240ADG000BACA0 or the 15 Ton Rheem RACGYB180ADG000BACA0, both 460V three phase. The complete 15 – 25 Ton large chassis straight cool range is available for multi-unit projects.

Only 208/230V available at the building? Order the 25 Ton Rheem RACGYB300ACG000BACA0 instead.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual equipment selection depends on ventilation air, occupancy, glazing, internal loads, duct static pressure and design conditions. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the 460V model draw only 62 amps when the 208/230V version needs 132?

For the same delivered power, current falls as voltage rises. At 460V each compressor draws 19.4 amps RLA instead of 40.8, and the 10 HP supply fan motor draws 12.5 amps instead of 27. The result is a 62 amp minimum circuit ampacity and an 80 amp maximum overcurrent protection device, which allows smaller conductors, smaller conduit and a smaller disconnect for the same 25 tons of cooling.

Does running on 460V change cooling capacity or efficiency?

No. The RACGYB300ADG000BACA0 delivers the same 300,000 Btu/h gross and 284,000 Btu/h AHRI net capacity at the same 10.0 EER and 13.2 IEER as its 208/230V counterpart. Voltage affects the electrical infrastructure serving the unit, not the refrigeration performance.

What filters does this unit take, and how many?

The unit is furnished with eight 2 x 24 x 20 inch disposable filters in a slide-out rack. MERV 8 and MERV 13 upgrades are available as factory-installed or field-installed options. Keeping to the specified filter size matters — a restrictive or mismatched filter raises static pressure and pulls the supply blower away from its design operating point.

How does the 25-ton compare with stepping down to the 20-ton RACG?

The 20-ton nets 228,000 Btu/h at 11.0 EER and 14.2 IEER on 8,000 nominal CFM. This 25-ton nets 284,000 Btu/h on 10,000 nominal CFM at 10.0 EER and 13.2 IEER — about 25 percent more capacity, with the efficiency rating stepping down slightly at the top of the line. It also carries a larger 1.25 in. indoor coil and a 10 HP supply fan rather than the 20-ton's smaller blower motor.

What outdoor temperature can this rooftop unit run in?

Cooling operation is rated to 125°F ambient as standard, so the unit is suited to hot-climate rooftops without an added accessory. For applications that require mechanical cooling in cold weather, a low-ambient control kit and a freeze stat kit are available as factory or field-installed options.

Is an economizer available for the 460V RACG units?

Yes, and the economizer is independent of unit voltage. Rheem lists single-enthalpy economizers for both downflow and horizontal configurations across all 15 to 25 ton RACG models, along with manual and motorized fresh air dampers and a universal DDC interface kit. Economizers are frequently required on units this size to meet ASHRAE 90.1-2022 and local energy code, so confirm the requirement for the jurisdiction before ordering.
