2 Ton EcoTemp R-454B Multi-Positional Cased Coil, W5AM24M17XA

Most residential furnaces and blower cabinets in the field are 17-1/2 in. wide, and the W5AM24M17XA is the 2 ton EcoTemp coil built to sit on them without an adapter. It pairs a 17-1/2 in. casing with the same short 25-13/16 in. body as the narrow 14 in. version, so it clears low closet headers while lining up flush on a standard-width furnace discharge. Inside is a vertical A-coil with a factory-set R-454B thermostatic expansion valve, dual sloped FRTP drain pans, and the complete A2L leak dissipation package required on every R-454B installation.

Is a 2 Ton Cased Coil the Right Size?

Rated for 600 to 1000 CFM and delivering 32.8 MBH gross at 800 CFM, 67°F entering wet bulb and 45°F saturated suction, the 2417 coil serves the same load band as its 14 in. sibling. What separates them is fit and airflow behavior: the wider casing presents a larger face area to the airstream, which lowers coil static pressure drop and gives an older blower a little more margin before it starves for airflow.

Getting this right starts with the outdoor unit and the blower, not the floor plan. Look up the AHRI-certified match for your condenser or heat pump, then check whether the existing blower can deliver design airflow through the new coil plus your filter, ducts and any UV accessory. Humid climates favor keeping airflow near the lower end of the range for better latent removal; dry climates can push toward the top. If the furnace cabinet is already 17-1/2 in., this is the coil that drops straight on.

Ideal for: Standard 17-1/2 in. gas furnace and air handler cabinets, 2 ton changeouts in single-family homes, townhomes and duplexes, and any job where a flush furnace-to-coil transition is preferred over field-fabricated adapters.

Need more capacity? Step up to the 2.5 Ton EcoTemp W5AM30M17XA Cased Coil, which holds the 17-1/2 in. width and adds a half ton of nominal capacity.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual coil selection depends on the AHRI-certified system match, blower capability, duct static, and local design conditions. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

Sitting on a standard 17-1/2 in. furnace, the W5AM24M17XA matches the 2 ton EcoTemp W5A5S24AKAWA condenser or the W5H5S24AKAAA heat pump. If the furnace below is a different width, ICP offers no-offset, single-offset and double-offset coil adapter kits (NAHB00101CA, NAHB00201CA, NAHB00301CA). Browse the full gas furnace selection if the heating side is being replaced at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the 17-1/2 in. W5AM24M17XA over the 14 in. W5AM24M14XA?

Both are 2 ton coils with identical line sizes and airflow ratings. The 17-1/2 in. casing matches standard furnace cabinet width for a flush transition and presents a larger coil face, which lowers air-side pressure drop. Choose the 14 in. version only when space forces it.

Will this coil mount directly on top of an upflow gas furnace?

Yes. It sets on the furnace discharge opening in upflow applications. The installation instructions call for the coil to be level so condensate drains properly, and note that the casing itself does not need to be fastened to the furnace.

How tall is the W5AM24M17XA cabinet?

25-13/16 in. tall and 23.4 in. deep. It uses the short-body casing, which is the same height as the 2 ton and 2.5 ton 14 in. models and about 4 in. shorter than the tall-body 3 ton and 3.5 ton coils.

What airflow range is the 2417 coil rated for?

600 to 1000 CFM. Before designing to the top of that range, check the coil static pressure drop table against what your blower can actually deliver through the filter and duct system.

Are both vertical and horizontal drain pans included?

Yes. Two fiberglass reinforced thermoset polyester pans ship with the coil, one for vertical and one for horizontal installation, each with engineered slope. That is what makes a single coil usable in all four orientations.

What if the furnace below is a different width than the coil?

ICP offers three coil adapter kits — NAHB00101CA with no offset, NAHB00201CA single offset and NAHB00301CA double offset. The installation instructions specify placing a field-fabricated 4 in. minimum adapter on the coil casing where required.
