5 Ton EcoTemp R-454B Multi-Positional Cased Coil, W5AM60M24XA

The W5AM60M24XA is the standard five-ton coil in the EcoTemp R-454B lineup — a full-width 24-1/2 in. cabinet on a 35 in. tall body, rated across 1500 to 2500 CFM and producing 82.4 MBH gross at 2000 CFM. The wide casing gives it the largest coil face and the most forgiving air-side pressure drop of the 60,000 BTUH class, which is what you want when a big blower has to push design airflow through a real duct system. Factory-installed R-454B TXV, twin sloped FRTP drain pans, 7/8 in. suction connection, UV knockouts and the complete A2L leak dissipation package come standard.

Is a 5 Ton Cased Coil the Right Size?

Five tons is the top of the residential single-system range, typically covering homes from roughly 2,600 to 3,500 sq. ft., large open-plan properties, and light commercial spaces such as offices, retail suites and restaurants running on split systems. Capacity is published at 1500, 2000 and 2500 CFM, so the coil covers a wide band — but 2500 CFM is a serious airflow requirement that a duct system has to be designed for, not merely asked to deliver.

Beyond the load calculation, the practical constraints at this size are physical. The cabinet is 24-1/2 in. wide and 35 in. tall, so both the mechanical space and the path to it need checking — a 35.8 in. carton does not turn every attic corner. At 92 lb operating weight, plan on two people. And confirm the AHRI-certified match before ordering, since 5 ton condensers may be certified with either the 60-size or the 61-size coil depending on the model.

Ideal for: 2,600 to 3,500 sq. ft. homes, large open-plan residences, light commercial offices and retail suites, and any 5 ton changeout with room for a full-width 24-1/2 in. cabinet.

Need a larger coil? The 5 Ton EcoTemp W5AM61M24XA Cased Coil shares this exact cabinet and steps up to the 61-size coil where the AHRI match calls for it.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual coil selection depends on the AHRI-certified system match, blower capability, duct static, and local design conditions. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The intended outdoor matches are the 5 ton EcoTemp W5A5S60AKAWA condenser and the W5H5S60AKAAA heat pump. Where a 24-1/2 in. cabinet will not fit, the 21 in. wide W5AM61M21XA reaches the same capacity in a narrower casing. Plan on a field-supplied line set, filter drier and R-454B refrigerant.

Specifications & Manuals

Size 6024 appears in the dimensional table, the cooling capacity tables at 1500, 2000 and 2500 CFM, and the static pressure drop chart running out to 2200 CFM. Compare directly against size 6124 when deciding between the two full-width 5 ton coils.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the nominal capacity of the W5AM60M24XA?

5 ton, 60,000 BTUH nominal, measuring 82.4 MBH gross at 2000 CFM with 67°F entering wet bulb and 45°F saturated suction temperature. Fan motor heat is not deducted from published figures.

How wide is the 6024 cabinet?

24-1/2 in. wide by 35 in. tall by 23.4 in. deep, shipping in a 35.8 in. by 25.1 in. by 23.4 in. carton. Check the delivery path as well as the final location — that carton does not turn tight corners.

What is the difference between the 60-size and 61-size 5 ton coils?

Both are nominal 5 ton and rated 1500 to 2500 CFM. In the 24-1/2 in. cabinet, the 6124 shows marginally higher gross capacity than the 6024 at the same conditions. Which one is correct for a given system is set by the AHRI-certified match, not by preference.

What airflow range does the W5AM60M24XA cover?

1500 to 2500 CFM. Direct interpolation between the published 1500, 2000 and 2500 CFM data points is permitted; extrapolating beyond them is not.

How much does this 5 ton coil weigh?

92.0 lb operating and 103.0 lb shipping. It is the heaviest coil in the W5AM series alongside the 6124, so treat it as a two-person lift, particularly for attic or overhead work.

Can the W5AM60M24XA be installed in a horizontal attic run?

Yes, horizontal-left or horizontal-right. The horizontal FRTP pan is included, and the installation instructions cover the condensate pan extension and cork tape placement required for horizontal work. A secondary drain line with a trap should always be run.
