EcoTemp 1.5 Ton AC with 60,000 BTU 97% AFUE Gas Furnace – 17-1/2" Cabinet System
Some homes need little cooling in summer but a lot of heat in winter. This EcoTemp package fits that case. A W5A5S18AKAWA 1.5 ton R-454B condenser and a W5AM24M17XA cased coil handle cooling at 15.5 SEER2 (AHRI 214883609). The WFSX060B048B condensing furnace supplies 58,000 BTU of delivered heat and is one of the two most efficient furnaces in the WFSX line: 97.0% AFUE in upflow and horizontal, 95% in downflow. Its 17-1/2 in. cabinet is a common replacement width, so it suits small homes, cabins, and older houses in colder regions where a single-stage 40K furnace would fall short on design days.
Is a 1.5 Ton AC with a 60K BTU Furnace the Right Size?
This system splits its sizing on purpose. The cooling side is suited to compact spaces, often in the 700 to 1,000 square foot range, while the 60,000 BTU input furnace covers a much larger winter load. That gap is common in northern and mountain climates, older homes with less insulation, and houses with a lot of glass, where heat loss far exceeds summer heat gain.
Before choosing between this system and the 40K version, compare the calculated heat loss at your local winter design temperature to each furnace's output: 39,000 BTU for the 40K and 58,000 BTU for this 60K. Remember the 4%-per-1,000-ft derate above 2,000 ft elevation. A Manual J calculation confirms which side of the load should drive the choice.
Ideal for: Small homes and cabins in cold-winter regions, older bungalows with modest summer loads, basement-heavy floor plans, and replacements of an existing 17-1/2 in. furnace.
Need more capacity? For more cooling, move to the EcoTemp 2 Ton 40K BTU Gas System (W5A5S24AKAWA), or browse all 2 ton 92%+ AFUE gas furnace systems.
Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, ductwork, climate, elevation, and a proper load calculation. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The furnace and coil both use the 17-1/2 in. "B" cabinet width, so the W5AM24M17XA sets flush on top of the furnace for a stacked height of about 60-13/16 in. before the plenum. The 1/2 in. NPT gas connection and 115V furnace circuit are standard for a residential replacement. You can review the furnace on its own on the WFSX060B048B 60K furnace page, and add programmable thermostats or a line set as optional add-ons.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should a 1.5 ton AC get a 60,000 BTU furnace instead of 40,000 BTU?
When your calculated winter heat loss exceeds the 39,000 BTU output of the 40K furnace. This 60K model delivers 58,000 BTU, which suits cold-climate homes with modest cooling needs.
What does ENERGY STAR North mean for the WFSX060B048B?
Installed upflow or horizontal, this furnace reaches 97.0% AFUE and meets ENERGY STAR version 5.0 North criteria for gas furnaces. In downflow it is 95% AFUE and meets the South criteria.
Are the furnace and coil the same width in this package?
Yes. Both the WFSX060B048B furnace and the W5AM24M17XA coil are 17-1/2 in. wide, so the coil sits flush on the furnace without an offset adapter.
What line set sizes does the W5A5S18AKAWA require?
The rated line sizes are 3/8 in. liquid and 5/8 in. vapor, and the condenser's vapor service valve is 3/4 in. Refer to the W5A5S technical specifications for long-line and alternate vapor sizing.
How loud is the 1.5 ton W5A5S outdoor unit?
The W5A5S18AKAWA has a standard sound rating of 72 dBA, or 71 dBA with the accessory sound shield, tested in compliance with AHRI 270.
Can this furnace be installed in a manufactured or mobile home?
The WFSX is approved for manufactured (mobile) home applications when the optional Mobile Home accessory kit, ordered separately, is installed. It is not designed for recreational vehicles or outdoor installation.
