Mini Split Multi 4 Zone Gree 21 SEER2 Heat Pump R-32 Condenser, MUL36HP230V1R32AO
The MUL36HP230V1R32AO does something unusual for a heat pump: it holds its full 36,000 BTU/h rated heating capacity all the way down to 5°F — the same output at 47°F, 17°F, and 5°F, with rated operation to -22°F. Add a maximum heating output of 51,180 BTU/h and maximum cooling of 40,900 BTU/h, four independently controlled zones, and 263 feet of piping with 82 feet of lift, and this becomes the condenser for a genuinely cold-climate whole-house project. Each zone can be a Gree Livo wall-mount air handler or a Gree ceiling cassette with grille included — this is the first model to offer the 24K cassette — and every indoor unit ships with its own wireless remote. Wi-Fi is factory installed and the allowable combination table is on the submittal. Choose your four indoor units below.
Four Zones and Flat Cold-Weather Output
The specification worth dwelling on is the flat heating curve. Most air-source heat pumps shed capacity steadily as it gets colder, which is why cold-climate projects end up oversized on the cooling side to survive winter. This condenser publishes 36,000 BTU/h at 47°F, 36,000 at 17°F, and 36,000 at 5°F with non-ducted indoor units. That lets you size the system to the actual cooling load and still meet a northern heating design temperature.
Four zones typically means a three-bedroom home with a living area, or two bedrooms plus office and great room. With the full cassette range available including the 24K, the format decision can follow each room rather than the whole house: a flush cassette in the main living space and wall-mount heads in bedrooms is a common and cost-effective pattern. Each room needs its own load calculation — insulation, glazing area and orientation, ceiling height and volume, infiltration, occupancy, and equipment heat — and the resulting set of four capacities must appear on the combination table. With 51,180 BTU/h of maximum heating output there is real headroom for over-connection, but the table is the boundary. Electrically the condenser needs a 30 A minimum circuit ampacity with 35 A maximum overcurrent protection.
Ideal for: Three and four bedroom homes, cold-climate whole-house retrofits replacing oil or propane, homes with no existing ductwork, multi-story layouts, small multi-family buildings, and light commercial suites with four separately controlled spaces.
Need more capacity or zones? Step up to the 5 Zone Gree MUL42HP230V1R32AO condenser, which adds a fifth zone and extends total line length to 328 feet.
Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, glazing, ceiling height, ambient conditions, occupancy, and internal heat gain in each zone. Always verify your indoor unit selection against the allowable combination table on the submittal sheet. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

AHRI certification 215218916 applies to this condenser. It holds 95.26 oz of R-32 with 0.2 oz added per foot beyond the pre-charge, measures 40-10/64 x 32-33/64 x 16-52/64 in. at 173.1 lb net, and runs at 59 dB(A). Rated current is 21.7 A cooling and 22.6 A heating. Cassette selections include the matching decorative grille — GREETF05 on the 9K, 12K and 18K, and GREETF06 on the 24K — along with an integral condensate pump. Ducted and mixed-configuration ratings are published on the submittal for installations using ducted air handlers.

Specifications & Manuals
Four-zone layouts should be planned against the submittal's allowable combination table before any material is ordered, and the Gree Cassette document set should be reviewed for every zone you intend to finish with a cassette — ceiling depth and access decide feasibility. This condenser's 173.1 lb weight should be set on a rated condenser pad, wall mount or tie down.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this really produce full capacity at 5°F?
The submittal publishes 36,000 BTU/h at 47°F, 17°F, and 5°F with non-ducted indoor units, so rated output does not derate across that range. Ducted configurations drop to 33,000 BTU/h at 5°F and mixed to 34,000. Rated operation extends to -22°F, below which the manufacturer publishes no rating.
Which cassette sizes work on this condenser?
All four — 9K, 12K, 18K and 24K. This is the first model in the range to offer the 24K cassette, which is the one to use for a large great room. Note it takes the GREETF06 grille rather than the GREETF05 used on the three smaller sizes; both are included with the respective cassette selection.
Can this replace an oil or propane furnace in a cold climate?
The numbers support it better than most ductless equipment — full capacity to 5°F, a 2.10 COP at that temperature, and rated operation to -22°F. Whether it can be the sole heat source depends on your building's design heating load at the local design temperature, and many jurisdictions still want a documented backup source.
What size breaker does a four-zone system need?
The condenser lists a 30 A minimum circuit ampacity and 35 A maximum overcurrent protection on a single two-pole 208-230V circuit, with 21.7 A rated cooling current. All four indoor units are powered through the outdoor unit, so no additional circuits are required for the heads or cassettes.
Do I have to install all four zones at once?
No. The submittal lists this condenser as supporting 2 to 4 zones, and the combination table includes approved two and three zone configurations. Unused connections stay capped and can be commissioned when a room is finished later — useful for phased renovations, provided the eventual full set appears on the table.
How is condensate handled with four indoor units?
Each unit drains independently. Wall-mount heads drain by gravity through their wall penetration and need continuous downhill fall. Cassettes have an integral condensate pump, which is what makes above-ceiling installation practical where gravity drainage is not available. Map all four drain routes before setting mounting plates or cutting ceilings.
