Mitsubishi GX Series 30,000 BTU Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump System
The Mitsubishi GX 30,000 BTU system brings two-and-a-half tons of ductless capacity to demanding spaces, combining the MUZ-GX30NL inverter condenser with the MSZ-GX30NL wall-mounted air handler. Rated at 19.2 SEER2 on R454B, it is built for large great rooms, sizable basements, and light-commercial areas that need serious output from a single head — including strong dehumidification of up to 8.3 pints per hour.
Is 30,000 BTU the Right Size?
Two and a half tons is near the top of what a single ductless head can reasonably serve. As a general guideline the GX30 fits open spaces of roughly 1,200 to 1,500 square feet, delivering 30,600 BTU/h of cooling and 32,600 BTU/h of heating at 47°F. Its high moisture-removal rate also makes it effective in humid, high-occupancy rooms.
At this capacity, room geometry and airflow become as important as square footage. A tall, open volume with good sight lines lets the head distribute output effectively; heavily divided spaces are usually better served by more than one zone.
Ideal for: large great rooms, open basements, sunrooms, small commercial suites, and gathering spaces with high occupancy.
Need more capacity? Step up to the Mitsubishi GX 36,000 BTU mini-split system, or step down to the 24,000 BTU GX system for a slightly smaller area.
Recommended room sizes are general guidelines only. Actual requirements depend on insulation, ceiling height, sun exposure, climate, and room use. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The MUZ-GX30NL uses the large outdoor cabinet and a 5/8" gas line (with 1/4" liquid) and carries a 3 lb 12 oz R454B charge. Compared with the GX24, it trades some rated efficiency for meaningfully more raw output and stronger dehumidification, making it the right call when a room's peak load is the priority.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much floor area can a 30,000 BTU head serve?
As a general guideline, roughly 1,200 to 1,500 square feet of open space, subject to ceiling height, insulation, and layout. This is a two-and-a-half-ton system delivering 30,600 BTU/h of cooling.
Why is the GX30's SEER2 lower than the smaller GX models?
Higher-capacity single-zone systems generally post lower SEER2 numbers because they spend more time near full output. The GX30's 19.2 SEER2 is still efficient for its class, and it prioritizes raw capacity and dehumidification.
Does the 30,000 BTU unit handle humidity well?
Yes. Its Dry mode removes up to about 8.3 pints of moisture per hour — far more than the smaller GX models — which is valuable in humid, high-traffic rooms.
Is a single 30,000 BTU head better than two smaller units?
For one large open volume, a single high-output head is simpler and cost-effective. For multiple separated rooms, two smaller zoned systems usually deliver more even comfort.
What refrigerant charge does the GX30 ship with?
The MUZ-GX30NL comes with a 3 lb 12 oz factory charge of R454B; additional refrigerant is added on site only when the line set exceeds the chargeless length.
Can the GX30 mount on a rooftop or distant pad?
Yes, within its 100-foot line-length and 50-foot height-difference limits, which give installers flexibility for rooftop, ground-pad, or side-yard placement.
