Mitsubishi GX Series 18,000 BTU Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump System

The Mitsubishi GX 18,000 BTU system steps up to a larger outdoor chassis and a bigger indoor head, pairing the MUZ-GX18NL inverter condenser with the MSZ-GX18NL wall-mounted air handler. Rated at 22.5 SEER2 on R454B and equipped with a POWERFUL quick-response mode, this one-and-a-half-ton system is made for larger rooms and open living areas that a smaller head cannot keep up with.

Is 18,000 BTU the Right Size?

At one and a half tons, an 18,000 BTU system is the entry point into large-room comfort. As a general guideline it fits spaces of roughly 700 to 1,000 square feet and provides 18,000 BTU/h of cooling and 21,600 BTU/h of heating at 47°F, giving it the reach to condition a combined kitchen-and-living area from a single head.

Open floor plans, high ceilings, and rooms with significant west-facing glass raise the real load, so confirm the layout before sizing. This is also the first GX model to use the larger outdoor cabinet, which is worth planning for when choosing a mounting location.

Ideal for: great rooms, open-concept kitchen/living combinations, large primary suites, and finished attics or bonus rooms.

Need more capacity? Step up to the Mitsubishi GX 24,000 BTU mini-split system, or drop to the 15,000 BTU GX system for a medium room.

Recommended room sizes are general guidelines only. Actual requirements depend on insulation, ceiling height, sun exposure, climate, and room use. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The MUZ-GX18NL moves to the larger SRB172 inverter compressor and a bigger cabinet (33-1/16" W × 13" D × 34-5/8" H, 116 lb), carrying a 3 lb 12 oz R454B charge. Longer allowances of up to 100 ft of line and 50 ft of height give installers more routing flexibility, and the indoor unit's POWERFUL mode ramps output quickly to recover temperature after doors and windows have been open.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is POWERFUL mode on the MSZ-GX18NL?

POWERFUL mode temporarily maximizes fan speed and output to bring a room to temperature quickly, then returns to normal operation automatically after about 15 minutes. It is offered on the GX18 and larger indoor units, but not on the GX09–GX15.

Why is the 18,000 BTU outdoor unit larger than the 15,000 BTU model?

The GX18 uses the bigger SRB172 compressor and a larger cabinet (about 116 lb) to support one-and-a-half-ton output. Allow additional clearance and a sturdier pad or bracket compared with the compact GX09–GX15 chassis.

How far can the line set run on the GX18?

The larger condenser increases the allowances to 100 feet of total refrigerant line and up to a 50-foot height difference, roughly 50% more reach than the smaller GX models.

Is 18,000 BTU enough for an open kitchen and living room?

For a combined space up to roughly 1,000 square feet it usually is, provided ceilings are standard height and insulation is reasonable. Very open or heavily glazed layouts may call for the 24,000 BTU system.

What circuit does the GX18 require?

It runs on 208/230V single-phase power with a 23A minimum circuit ampacity and a 25A maximum overcurrent protection device.

Does the larger indoor unit remove more humidity?

Yes. The MSZ-GX18NL removes up to about 3.4 pints per hour in Dry mode, more than the smaller heads, which helps in large or humid rooms.
