EcoTemp 5 Ton 14.5 SEER2 Air Conditioner & 100K BTU Gas Furnace – 21" Cabinet System
This package delivers the line's maximum 60,000 BTU of cooling while keeping the indoor equipment at 21 in. wide. The W5A5S60AKAWA 5 ton R-454B condenser and W5AM61M21XA coil are AHRI-certified at 14.5 SEER2 (AHRI 215198025). The WFSX100C060B furnace provides 97,000 BTU of heat at up to 96.3% AFUE. It's designed for large homes in hot climates such as Florida, Texas, Arizona, and the Gulf Coast, where 5 tons of cooling is the priority and winter heat needs stay within what a 100K furnace delivers.
Is a 5 Ton System with a 100K Furnace the Right Size?
Five tons is the largest single residential split-system size and is often applied to homes of roughly 2,400 to 3,000 square feet, or smaller homes with very high solar gain. Pairing it with the 21 in. 100K furnace makes sense where cooling is the dominant load and a 116,000 BTU furnace would be more heat than the house needs.
A 5 ton system typically calls for around 2,000 CFM of cooling airflow, which is demanding on ductwork. Return-air layout, filter size, and supply trunk sizing all need to support it. Some large homes are better served by two smaller zoned systems. A Manual J load calculation and a duct design review will show whether one 5 ton system is the right approach.
Ideal for: Large Sun Belt homes, two-story homes with heavy cooling loads, open-plan homes with large glass areas, and 5 ton replacements in 21 in. furnace locations.
Need more capacity? For more winter heat, choose the EcoTemp 5 Ton 120K BTU Gas System (WFSX120D066B).
Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, ductwork, climate, elevation, and a proper load calculation. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The 5 ton condenser and the 5 ton-family W5AM61M21XA coil both connect to the 21 in. WFSX100C060B furnace, whose blower reaches up to 2,145 CFM in cooling. The coil is 35 in. tall, for a combined stack of about 70 in. The 5 ton W5A5S is rated with a 1-1/8 in. vapor line even though its service valve is 7/8 in., so check the line set before reusing existing copper. You can compare the other 5 ton 92%+ AFUE gas furnace systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why pair a 100K furnace with a 5 ton air conditioner?
In hot climates the cooling load sets the system size, and 97,000 BTU of heat is often more than enough for winter. Choosing the 100K keeps the furnace at 21 in. wide and avoids extra heat that a single-stage furnace would short-cycle.
Why is the rated vapor line larger than the condenser's service valve?
The W5A5S60AKAWA has a 7/8 in. vapor service valve but is rated with a 1-1/8 in. vapor line to limit capacity loss and keep oil returning to the compressor. See the vapor line sizing table in the W5A5S specifications.
What electrical service does the 5 ton condenser require?
A 208/230V single-phase circuit with a 31.1 minimum circuit ampacity and a 50 amp maximum time-delay fuse or breaker. The 24V control circuit requires an external 24V source, typically the furnace transformer.
What subcooling should a 5 ton W5A5S be charged to?
The specifications list 11°F of required subcooling for the 5 ton size with a TXV indoor coil, the highest target in the W5A5S range.
Can the heating blower run longer after the burners shut off?
Yes. The WFSX heating blower off-delay is adjustable to 90, 120 (factory setting), 150, or 180 seconds to pull remaining heat from the heat exchanger.
Can a 21-inch furnace move enough air for 5 tons?
The WFSX100C060B's cooling range reaches 2,145 CFM at rated static pressure, which covers typical 5 ton airflow. At airflow above 1,800 CFM, use bottom, two-side, or bottom-and-side returns.
