4 Ton Goodman 17.2 SEER2 R32 Two Stage Central System GLXT7CA4810, AMVT48CP1300 Variable Speed
For large homes, this premium Goodman system delivers 48,000 BTU/h of two-stage cooling at 17.2 SEER2 (AHRI #215865287). It pairs the GLXT7CA4810 condenser with the AMVT48CP1300 variable-speed air handler. At this size, two-stage operation makes a noticeable difference. The system runs on low stage for most of the season, which reduces temperature swings between rooms and floors and keeps the outdoor unit quieter. It has a factory crankcase heater, ComfortBridge™ communicating controls and a Lifetime Compressor Limited Warranty with registration. It's cooling only, with optional field-installed Goodman electric heat strips.
Is a 4 Ton Air Conditioning System the Right Size?
Four tons (48,000 BTU/h) is typically considered for large homes, often around 2,100–2,500 sq. ft. as a loose benchmark. Larger homes vary more in their loads, so a room-by-room calculation is important, especially with a two-stage system that relies on accurate sizing to spend most of its time on low stage.
Two-story homes often have upstairs rooms that run warmer. Variable-speed airflow and longer low-stage cycles help even that out, but ductwork still has to be sized for 1,600 CFM on high stage. Vaulted ceilings, large glass areas and attic duct runs all add to the load.
Ideal for: Large single-family homes, two-story homes with uneven upstairs temperatures and owners who want premium comfort in a big home.

Recommended home sizes are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, climate, windows, ductwork, occupancy and a proper load calculation. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 4 ton GLXT7 come with a crankcase heater?
Yes. Goodman lists a factory-installed crankcase heater on the GLXT7CA4810 and GLXT7CA6010. The 2 and 3 ton GLXT7 models don't include one from the factory.
What airflow does the AMVT48CP1300 provide with this condenser?
Goodman lists 1,072 CFM on low stage and 1,600 CFM on high stage when the AMVT48CP1300 is paired with a 4 ton outdoor unit.
How does the variable-speed blower handle restrictive ductwork?
The AMVT48CP1300 is designed to provide constant CFM over a wide range of static pressure, independent of the duct system. Badly undersized ducts can still limit performance and add noise, so have them evaluated.
What electrical circuit does the GLXT7CA4810 need?
Goodman lists a 31.6 minimum circuit ampacity and a 50A maximum overcurrent protection device, using time-delay fuses or HACR-type breakers. The air handler needs its own circuit sized for any heat kit you add.
Is there a UV light option for the AMVT48CP1300 drain pan?
Yes. Goodman lists the UVPK05 ultraviolet drain pan kit for the 48C AMVT cabinet.
How does this compare with the 4 ton GLXS5 system?
The GLXS5 4 ton is a single-stage system at 15.2 SEER2 with a multi-speed AMST air handler. This GLXT7 system is rated 17.2 SEER2 and adds two-stage cooling, a variable-speed AMVT air handler, communicating controls and a Lifetime Compressor Limited Warranty with registration.

"SEER2"stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2. Specifically, SEER2 is the total heat removed from the conditioned space during the annual cooling season. The M1 testing procedure will increase systems' external static pressure by a factor of five to better reflect field conditions of install equipment. With this change, new nomenclature will be used to denote M1 ratings (including EER2 and HSPF2).
