EcoTemp 3.5 Ton 15.5 SEER2 AC with 120,000 BTU Gas Furnace – 24-1/2" Cabinet System
This system pairs the largest WFSX furnace with a 3.5 ton condenser. The W5A5S42AKAWA R-454B condenser cools through a 24-1/2 in. W5AM60M24XA coil at 15.5 SEER2 (AHRI 215104786). The WFSX120D066B furnace provides 116,000 BTU of delivered heat at up to 96.1% AFUE. It is built for homes in severe-winter regions such as the upper Midwest, northern New England, and the Rockies, where heat loss outruns the 100K furnace but summer cooling still tops out at 3.5 tons. The 24-1/2 in. "D" cabinet is the widest in the line, so plan the mechanical space around it.
Is a 3.5 Ton AC with a 120K Furnace the Right Size?
Homes that need this combination usually have a large heating load from size, age, or exposure: big older homes, houses with full basements and high ceilings, rural properties exposed to wind, and homes at elevation where the 4%-per-1,000-ft derate cuts usable furnace output. Cooling stays at 3.5 tons (42,000 BTU), so summer comfort does not come at the cost of an oversized condenser.
A single-stage 120K furnace should only go where the heat loss supports it. Oversizing raises cycling and noise, and it can push supply temperatures beyond what the ductwork handles comfortably. Confirm the requirement with a Manual J calculation and check that supply and return ducts can carry the 1,965 CFM heating airflow at rated static.
Ideal for: Severe-winter homes with moderate cooling needs, large older homes, high-elevation properties, and replacements of an existing 120K furnace in a wide utility room or basement.
Need more capacity? For more cooling, step up to the EcoTemp 4 Ton 100K BTU Gas System (W5A5S48AKAWA), or see the 4 ton 120K version.
Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, ductwork, climate, elevation, and a proper load calculation. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The 24-1/2 in. WFSX120D066B 120K furnace needs a coil of the same width, so this system uses the W5AM60M24XA, AHRI-certified with the 3.5 ton condenser at 15.5 SEER2. The coil is 35 in. tall, so the furnace and coil stack to about 70 in. before the plenum. Check ceiling height in basements and closets before ordering. For propane homes, add the LP conversion kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a 24-1/2-inch furnace fit my utility room?
The WFSX120D066B is 24-1/2 in. wide and 35 in. tall, and the matching coil adds 35 in. of height at the same width. Measure door openings, closet width, and ceiling height, and add the service clearances from the installation instructions.
Why does a 3.5 ton system use the W5AM60M24XA coil?
The 120K furnace is built in the 24-1/2 in. "D" cabinet, and the W5AM60M24XA is the 24-1/2 in. coil AHRI-certified with the W5A5S42AKAWA. Matching widths gives a flush connection, and the certified rating is 15.5 SEER2.
Who actually needs a 120,000 BTU furnace?
Homes whose calculated heat loss exceeds the 97,000 BTU output of the 100K model. That's typical of large or older homes in very cold regions, or homes at high elevation, where input must be derated.
How many burners are in the WFSX120D066B?
Six burners, the most in the WFSX line, fed through a 1/2 in. NPT gas connection and a redundant White-Rodgers gas valve.
How airtight is the WFSX furnace cabinet?
Cabinet air leakage is less than 2.0% at 1.0 in. w.c. and less than 1.4% at 0.5 in. w.c. when tested to ASHRAE Standard 193, which helps keep conditioned air in the ductwork.
How much does the 120K furnace weigh?
About 181 lb shipping weight. With the roughly 92 lb W5AM60M24XA coil, plan for proper rigging when placing the equipment, especially in horizontal attic installs.
