The WFSX120D066B, the largest furnace in the WFSX series, produces 116,000 BTU of heat at up to 96.1% AFUE through a 1 HP ECM blower with 1,965 CFM of heating airflow. Is a 4 Ton System with a 120K Furnace the Right Size?
This system suits homes where both seasons are demanding: large two-story homes in the Midwest and Northeast, homes with finished basements, and properties at elevation where the furnace derates 4% per 1,000 ft above 2,000 ft. The 116,000 BTU output covers heat loss beyond what the 100K version (97,000 BTU) can deliver.
Before committing, compare the calculated heat loss with both furnace outputs, and check that supply and return ducts can carry the higher heating airflow. The 24-1/2 in. width and the 70 in. combined height of the furnace and coil also need to fit the mechanical room. A Manual J load calculation plus a duct inspection is the right starting point.

The WFSX120D066B furnace and the W5AM61M24XA coil are both 24-1/2 in. wide, and together they stand about 70 in. tall. Because the furnace's heating airflow exceeds 1,800 CFM, the return air must be bottom, two-side, or bottom-plus-side. Plan the return plenum and a 20 x 25 in. minimum filter size from the start. Add a programmable thermostat and a correctly sized line set to complete the installation.

Does the 120K furnace need a special return-air setup?
Yes. Airflows above 1,800 CFM require a bottom return, two-side returns, or bottom and side returns, with a minimum filter size of 20 x 25 in. The WFSX120D066B's rated heating airflow is 1,965 CFM.
How does this system differ from the 4 ton 100K version?
This version uses the 24-1/2 in. WFSX120D066B with 116,000 BTU of output, compared with 97,000 BTU from the 21 in. 100K furnace. The cooling rating is 15 SEER2 here versus 15.2 SEER2 on the 100K system.
Is a time-delay relay needed with this system?
Most indoor controls already include a blower off-delay, and the WFSX has an adjustable cooling off-delay (90 seconds factory set). A separate time-delay relay is only called for when the AHRI listing specifies one.
Should the condenser be raised off the pad?
The manufacturer's support feet accessory raises the unit 4 in. and is suggested for coastal installations, windy or debris-prone sites, rooftops, and improved sound. It lets dirt flush out from under the base to limit corrosion.
Can the WFSX120D066B be installed downflow?
Yes. It is approved for upflow, downflow, and horizontal left or right. In the downflow position it is rated 95.0% AFUE. Downflow over combustible floors may require a base kit per the installation instructions.
