Mitsubishi 8kW Two-Stage Electric Heat Strip for SVZ Air Handlers, EH08-SVZ-S
For SVZ-KP18NA and SVZ-KP24NA air handlers that need more backup heat than a single-stage strip can provide, the Mitsubishi EH08-SVZ-S delivers 8.0 kW at 240V (6.0 kW at 208V) split into two 4kW stages. Mitsubishi also lists this kit as an accessory for the R454B SVZ-AP24NL 24K BTU air handler. Staging lets the system bring on only as much resistance heat as the weather demands, which makes this the highest-output kit approved for the small SVZ cabinet. It's well suited to homes and light-commercial spaces in climates with sustained cold snaps, and to contractors who need dependable emergency heat behind a Mitsubishi ducted heat pump.
Is an 8kW Heat Strip the Right Size?
The 8kW kit is aimed at 1.5-ton and 2-ton SVZ systems where outdoor temperatures regularly drop low enough that the heat pump needs meaningful help. It is not approved for the 1-ton SVZ-KP12NA. That model is limited to the 3kW and 5kW small-cabinet kits.
When deciding between 5kW and 8kW, consider the home's calculated heat loss, how cold your design day gets, how much of that load the heat pump can carry on its own, and whether the electrical panel can support a 40A–45A circuit. Two-stage operation softens the impact on utility bills: the first 4kW stage covers moderate demand, and the second engages only when more heat is needed.
Ideal for: SVZ-KP18NA, SVZ-KP24NA and SVZ-AP24NL systems in colder regions, including larger homes, finished basements, small offices and rental properties where reliable emergency heat matters.
Need more capacity? Larger medium-cabinet systems can use the Mitsubishi 10kW Heat Strip, EH10-SVZ-M, approved for the SVZ-KP30NA and SVZ-KP36NA. If you need less supplemental heat, the 5kW EH05-SVZ-S fits all small SVZ cabinets.
Recommended heat kit applications are general guidelines only. Actual supplemental heat requirements depend on insulation, climate, heat pump capacity, duct design, and available electrical service. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.
What's Included
| Electric Heat Kit | EH08-SVZ-S — 8kW Two-Stage Heat Strip, Small Cabinet |
|---|---|
| Compatible Air Handlers | SVZ-KP18NA, SVZ-KP24NA, SVZ-AP24NL |
| Application | Two-Stage Supplemental & Emergency Heat for Mitsubishi SVZ Multi-Position Air Handlers |
| Heat Output | 8.0 kW at 240V / 6.0 kW at 208V |
| Staging | Two Stage (4kW + 4kW) |
| Factory Breaker | 45A (serves as disconnect switch) |
| Electrical | 208/240V, 60 Hz |
| MCA / MOP (Heater + Air Handler Motor) | 44.7A / 45A at 240V; 39.1A / 40A at 208V |
Packaged in the same 17-inch-wide footprint as the other small-cabinet kits, the EH08-SVZ-S adds a second heating stage and a heavier-duty 45A factory breaker. The SVZ air handler drives both stages through its CN24-1 and CN24-2 connections, so the system can stage heat on and off instead of running the full 8kW every time it calls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't the EH08-SVZ-S approved for the SVZ-KP12NA?
Mitsubishi's approved-combination chart pairs the 1-ton SVZ-KP12NA only with the 3kW and 5kW small-cabinet kits. For that air handler, choose the EH05-SVZ-S instead.
How is the 8kW kit different from the 5kW EH05-SVZ-S?
The EH08-SVZ-S delivers 3 kW more heat at 240V, splits its output into two 4kW stages instead of one, and uses a 45A factory breaker instead of 30A. It fits the SVZ-KP18NA and SVZ-KP24NA, while the 5kW kit also fits the SVZ-KP12NA.
How does two-stage heat work on the EH08-SVZ-S?
The kit contains two 4kW heating stages. The SVZ air handler energizes the first stage through CN24-1 and adds the second through CN24-2 when more heat is required, so the full 8kW is used only when conditions call for it.
What circuit protection does the 8kW SVZ heat strip require?
Including the air handler motor, the kit calls for a 45A maximum overcurrent device at 240V (44.7A MCA) and a 40A maximum at 208V (39.1A MCA). Size the wire per the NEC and local codes.
Is the EH08-SVZ-S compatible with the newer R454B SVZ-AP24NL?
Yes. Mitsubishi's SVZ-AP24NL specification sheet lists the EH08-SVZ-S as an optional electric heat accessory, along with the EH03-SVZ-S and EH05-SVZ-S.
Can the 8kW heat strip be powered from the outdoor unit?
No. Mitsubishi requires the electric heat kit to have its own power supply. It must not be powered from the outdoor heat pump.
