Mitsubishi 8kW Two-Stage Electric Heat Strip for SVZ Medium-Cabinet Air Handlers, EH08-SVZ-M

The Mitsubishi EH08-SVZ-M sits in the middle of the medium-cabinet heat kit lineup. It provides 8.0 kW at 240V (6.0 kW at 208V) in two 4kW stages for the SVZ-KP30NA and SVZ-KP36NA multi-position air handlers and the R454B Mitsubishi SVZ-AP36NL air handler. It gives 2.5-ton and 3-ton Mitsubishi ducted heat pump systems solid supplemental and emergency heat, with a lower circuit requirement than the 10kW kit. That makes it a practical choice for homeowners, builders and HVAC contractors balancing comfort against available panel capacity.

Is an 8kW Heat Strip the Right Size?

For many 2.5-ton and 3-ton SVZ installations, 8kW is the sweet spot. There's enough resistance heat to carry the home through extended cold spells or a heat pump service outage, and the 50A maximum breaker size at 240V is lighter than the 60A the 10kW kit needs. Two-stage control means the first 4kW comes on for moderate demand and the second stage engages only when the space keeps losing ground.

To decide whether 8kW fits, compare the building's design heat loss with the heat pump's capacity at your coldest expected outdoor temperature. Factor in the condition of the insulation and windows, whether the supply ducts run through an attic or crawlspace, and how many square feet the system serves. Homes that need more help than a 5kW strip can give, but don't justify 10kW, usually land here.

Ideal for: SVZ-KP30NA, SVZ-KP36NA and SVZ-AP36NL systems in mid-size to larger homes, townhomes, finished lower levels, churches, small offices and retail spaces in climates with regular freezing weather.

Need more capacity? Step up to the Mitsubishi 10kW Heat Strip, EH10-SVZ-M, the highest-output kit approved for the medium SVZ cabinet.

Recommended heat kit applications are general guidelines only. Actual supplemental heat requirements depend on insulation, climate, heat pump capacity, duct design, and available electrical service. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

What's Included

Electric Heat Kit EH08-SVZ-M — 8kW Two-Stage Heat Strip, Medium Cabinet
Compatible Air Handlers SVZ-KP30NA, SVZ-KP36NA, SVZ-AP36NL
Application Staged Supplemental & Emergency Heat for Mitsubishi SVZ Medium-Cabinet Air Handlers
Heat Output 8.0 kW at 240V / 6.0 kW at 208V
Staging Two Stage (4kW + 4kW)
Factory Breaker 50A (serves as disconnect switch)
Electrical 208/240V, 60 Hz
MCA / MOP (Heater + Air Handler Motor) 45.8A / 50A at 240V; 40.2A / 45A at 208V

Built to the 21-inch medium SVZ cabinet width, the EH08-SVZ-M ships as a complete heater module with a 50A factory breaker that doubles as a service disconnect. The air handler controls the two heating stages directly, and the connecting harness is already bundled inside the SVZ cabinet, so field wiring is mostly limited to bringing in a dedicated power supply. It's an easy add-on for anyone finishing a Mitsubishi ducted heat pump installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the EH08-SVZ-M use a 50A breaker when the small-cabinet 8kW kit uses 45A?

The heater element ratings are the same, but the medium-cabinet SVZ air handler has a larger blower motor. With the motor included, the EH08-SVZ-M's MCA is 45.8A at 240V, so Mitsubishi specifies a 50A MOP and a 50A factory breaker. The EH08-SVZ-S uses 45A.

When does the 8kW medium kit make more sense than the 10kW EH10-SVZ-M?

Choose the EH08-SVZ-M when the 10kW kit's extra output isn't needed or the electrical panel is tight. At 240V the 8kW kit calls for a 50A maximum breaker, compared with 60A for the EH10-SVZ-M.

Which R454B SVZ air handler accepts the EH08-SVZ-M?

Mitsubishi's SVZ-AP36NL submittal lists the EH08-SVZ-M as an optional electric heater, alongside the EH05-SVZ-M and EH10-SVZ-M.

What external static pressure limit applies with the EH08-SVZ-M installed?

The maximum external static pressure is 0.60 in. WG with an electric heater installed. If static exceeds 0.50 in. WG, Mitsubishi directs setting Mode 08/108 to 3 on the SVZ, and recommends adding 0.20 in. WG to the duct design to account for the heater.

What BTU output does the EH08-SVZ-M provide?

Converted from its kW ratings, the kit supplies roughly 27,300 BTU/h at 240V (8.0 kW) and about 20,470 BTU/h at 208V (6.0 kW).

Can the EH08-SVZ-M be installed in a horizontal attic application?

Yes. The kit supports both horizontal-left and horizontal-right configurations along with upflow and downflow. For horizontal-left, rotate the factory breaker 180° so the "ON" position reads correctly.
