Mini Split 24,000 BTU Gree Vireo 26 SEER2 Heat Pump System VIR24HP230V1R32AO, VIR24HP230V1R32AH

The VIR24HP230V1R32AO condenser and VIR24HP230V1R32AH air handler are the flagship of the Vireo R32 line — two tons of capacity at 26.0 SEER2 and 10.0 HSPF2, with a 4.0 COP at 47°F that is the highest in the series. It is rated 22,000 BTU/h cooling at 95°F and 24,000 BTU/h heating at 47°F, and holds a remarkable 20,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at 17°F with 16,000 BTU/h still available at 5°F. The inverter spans 3,340 to 28,660 BTU/h in cooling — better than eight-to-one turndown — and piping reaches 131 feet with 82 feet of lift. Wireless LCD remote and factory Wi-Fi included; 5-year parts and 7-year compressor warranty.

Two Tons That Perform Like Cold-Climate Equipment

What sets this model apart is not the capacity but how much of it survives the cold. Holding 20,000 BTU/h at 17°F against a 24,000 BTU/h rating at 47°F means the system retains roughly 83 percent of its heating output at a temperature where many heat pumps have fallen off badly. Paired with a 10.0 HSPF2 and a 4.0 COP, it is a credible primary heat source in climates where that is usually a hard sell for ductless equipment.

Two tons deserves a careful load calculation in both directions. Undersizing leaves a space that never quite catches up on a design day; oversizing satisfies the thermostat before the coil has removed meaningful moisture, producing a room that reads cold but feels damp. Insulation, air infiltration, glazing area and orientation, ceiling height and volume, ventilation air, occupancy, and equipment heat all belong in the calculation. Electrically the system draws 13 A cooling and 15.5 A heating, with a 22 A minimum circuit ampacity, 30 A maximum overcurrent protection, and a 20-amp two-pole breaker.

Ideal for: Compact whole homes, large great rooms, second-floor and top-floor retrofits, cold-climate primary heating applications, open commercial suites and shop offices, community and assembly rooms, and installations needing the condenser well away from the head.

Need more capacity? This is the largest system in the Vireo R32 range — for greater output step across to the 30,000 BTU Gree Livo 22 SEER2 Heat Pump System or browse multi-zone options across our ductless mini split systems range.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, room volume and air distribution, glazing, ceiling height, ambient conditions, ventilation, occupancy, and internal heat gain. AHRI certification 215218912 applies to this pairing. The 92.6 lb condenser carries a 42.3 oz R-32 charge covering 25 feet of line set, adding 0.4 oz per foot beyond, with flare connections at 1/4 inch liquid and 5/8 inch gas, pipe length from 10 to 131 feet, and 82 feet of allowable elevation difference. Supply voltage range is 187–253 VAC. The indoor cabinet measures 42-21/64 x 13-7/64 x 9-11/16 in. at 35.3 lb, moves 383 to 736 CFM across seven fan speeds, and removes 4.23 pt/hr of moisture. Wired controller options are available — often the better choice in commercial spaces where a handheld remote goes missing.

Specifications & Manuals

Note the piping change at this capacity — installation requires a 1/4" and 5/8" insulated copper line set, not the 1/2 inch gas line used on the 18,000 BTU model. Set the condenser on rated condenser pads, wall mounts or tie downs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this be used as the primary heat source in a cold climate?

Its numbers support it better than most ductless equipment: 20,000 BTU/h at 17°F, 16,000 BTU/h at 5°F, a 10.0 HSPF2, and rated operation to -22°F. Whether it can be the sole heat source depends on the building's design heating load at your local design temperature, and most jurisdictions and lenders still want a backup heat source documented.

Why is rated cooling 22,000 BTU/h on a 24,000 BTU system?

The 24,000 designation reflects the nominal two ton class and the heating rating at 47°F, which is 24,000 BTU/h. Measured cooling capacity at the 95°F test condition is 22,000 BTU/h, with the inverter reaching 28,660 BTU/h at maximum. Size against 22,000 when working from a calculated cooling load.

What is the practical benefit of 8-to-1 turndown?

Modulating down to 3,340 BTU/h means the system rarely has to stop and start. That produces steadier temperature, better moisture removal because the coil stays cold and wet for longer stretches, less compressor wear from cycling, and the part-load efficiency that yields the 26.0 SEER2 rating.

Why is the additional refrigerant charge 0.4 oz per foot here rather than 0.2?

The larger 5/8 inch gas line holds substantially more internal volume per foot than a 1/2 inch line, so more refrigerant is needed to fill it. On a 131 foot run that is roughly 42 oz of additional charge on top of the 42.3 oz factory charge — effectively doubling the system charge, which makes accurate weighing essential.

What does privacy lock do and when is it useful?

It locks out the control interface so the setpoint and mode cannot be changed without unlocking. In a rental unit, a waiting room, a classroom, or a shared office it prevents the daily thermostat war and keeps the system on the schedule you set — particularly worthwhile in a two ton space where a wrong setpoint is expensive.

How does this compare to the 24,000 BTU Livo at the same capacity?

Both are rated 22,000 BTU/h cooling at 95°F, but this Vireo posts 26.0 SEER2 and 10.0 HSPF2 against the 24,000 BTU Livo at 19.0 SEER2 and 8.5 HSPF2, and holds 20,000 BTU/h at 17°F versus 15,300. The Vireo also adds seven fan speeds, factory Wi-Fi, humidity control, Freeze Guard, and privacy lock.
