Is a 5 Ton Two-Stage Heat Pump Package Unit the Right Size?
Five tons is the top of the single-phase residential range, suited to cooling loads of about 55,000 to 60,000 BTUh in very large homes, open commercial floors, restaurants, and high-occupancy spaces. The GPHM56031 adds 12,500 BTUh of cooling and 17,000 BTUh of heating at 47°F over the 4 ton, with 375 more CFM of airflow.
The 5 ton uses its own extra-large cabinet, curb, and duct layout. No square to round adapter is available for the 5 ton GPHM5. Round duct connections must be fabricated on site by your contractor, or made with Goodman's 18-inch concentric duct adapter kit. Confirm the duct system can carry 1,950 CFM. In cold weather, heating output drops to 26,000 BTUh at 17°F, so plan backup heat accordingly.
