5 Ton Goodman 13.4 SEER2 R-32 Two-Stage Heat Pump Package Unit GPHM36031
The Goodman GPHM36031 is the largest GPHM3 and the only two-stage model in the series. It is also the only one with TXV metering on both coils. It delivers 55,000 BTUh of total cooling at 13.4 SEER2, and 54,000 BTUh of heating at 47°F with an impressive 31,400 BTUh at 17°F. A 1 HP ECM blower moves 1,750 CFM. Unlike some brands' 5 ton package units, it shares the same 47 x 51 inch large chassis, roof curb, and square to round adapter as the 3.5 and 4 ton models, which simplifies installation and replacement. Is a 5 Ton Two-Stage Heat Pump Package Unit the Right Size?
Five tons is the top of the single-phase residential range. It suits cooling loads of about 52,000 to 58,000 BTUh, such as very large homes, open commercial floors, restaurants, and high-occupancy spaces. Two-stage operation lets the unit run at reduced capacity most of the time. That improves comfort and humidity control in a size that would otherwise short-cycle on mild days.
Its 31,400 BTUh of heating at 17°F is the strongest cold-weather output in the GPHM3 line. For the coldest nights, the HKTPD201 20 kW heat kit is approved. Confirm the duct system can carry 1,750 CFM before installing.
Ideal for: Very large all-electric homes, restaurants, retail stores, offices, churches, and workshops with 5 ton cooling loads on single-phase power.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the GPHM36031 a two-stage heat pump?
Yes. The 5 ton is the only GPHM3 with a two-stage scroll compressor and TXV metering. The 2 through 4 ton models are single-stage with piston metering.
Is a square to round adapter available for the 5 ton GPHM3?
Yes. The GPHM36031 uses the same large chassis as the 3.5 and 4 ton models, so the SQRPGH103 horizontal square to round adapter fits it. Goodman lists the SQRPG103 for downflow.
What circuit does the GPHM36031 need with the 20 kW heat kit?
With the HKTPD201 20 kW kit on a single-point connection, Goodman lists 141.84 MCA and a 150 amp maximum overcurrent device. Without a heat kit, the unit needs 42.84 MCA and a 60 amp breaker.
Does the 5 ton GPHM3 use the same roof curb as smaller sizes?
Yes. The D14CRBPGCHMA roof curb fits all GPHM3 sizes, and the 5 ton shares the 47 x 51 inch footprint and 16 x 18 inch duct openings with the 3.5 and 4 ton models.
How much heat does the GPHM36031 deliver at 17°F?
Goodman rates it at 31,400 BTUh with a 2.22 COP at 17°F, the strongest cold-weather heating in the GPHM3 series.
Which economizers fit the 5 ton GPHM3?
As a large-chassis unit, it uses the GPJMED103 downflow economizer or the DHZECNJPGCHL horizontal economizer, with the 0259L00411 wiring harness required.
