5 Ton EcoTemp 14.5 SEER2 135K BTU Single Stage Gas System W5A5S60AKAWA, W5AM61M24XA, WFER135D060C

The largest system in the EcoTemp gas range, and the only one built on the 24-1/2 inch D cabinet. The W5A5S60AKAWA condenser supplies 60,000 BTU/h of R-454B cooling at 14.5 SEER2 through a 1-1/8 inch vapor line, matched to the W5AM61M24XA cased coil on the wide 24-inch chassis. Heat comes from the six-burner WFER135D060C: 132,000 BTU/h input, 107,000 BTU/h output at 80% AFUE, with a 3/4 HP blower rated to 1,810 CFM and the 060 airflow designation for 5 ton service. This is maximum residential capacity on both sides — five tons of cooling and more than 100,000 BTU/h of usable heat — aimed at 3,000 to 4,000 square foot homes in cold climates, large multi-level houses on one system, and light commercial spaces with real winter heating demand.

Is a 5 Ton / 135K BTU Gas System the Right Size?

At 107,000 BTU/h of heat output this is the heaviest heating package offered here, and it exists for buildings where the winter load is genuinely large: 3,000 square feet and up in the Upper Midwest, northern New England, or the Mountain West, older construction with substantial heat loss, homes with large glazed areas, or spaces with high ceilings and significant volume to heat. The cooling side remains at 5 tons, the practical ceiling for standard residential split equipment.

Two practical constraints deserve attention before ordering. The 24-1/2 inch cabinet needs real mechanical-room width plus service clearance, so it rarely fits a closet designed around older narrow equipment. And a 132,000 BTU/h input calls for gas piping and venting sized to match — an existing supply line adequate for an 80,000 BTU/h furnace may not carry this load, particularly with a water heater on the same run. Both are addressed in the installation instructions and should be verified during planning rather than at installation. Where the calculated load approaches this level, evaluating two systems or a zoned design is often worthwhile.

Ideal for: Homes of roughly 3,000 to 4,000 square feet, cold-climate construction in the Upper Midwest, northern New England, and the Mountain West, large multi-level houses on a single system, high-ceiling great rooms and volume spaces, and light commercial applications with substantial heating demand.

Need more capacity? This is the largest residential system in the EcoTemp gas range. Beyond 5 tons of cooling, move to light commercial equipment in our straight cool 3 to 20 ton systems category, or consider the higher-efficiency 5 Ton EcoTemp 15 SEER2 110K BTU Gas System W5AM61M21XA if heating demand is lower.

Recommended sizing ranges are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, window area, air infiltration, duct design, occupancy, and local design temperatures. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The D cabinet is what makes this heat output possible. A six-burner assembly and a 107,000 BTU/h output heat exchanger need more width than the 21-inch C chassis provides, which is why this is the only system in the range at 24-1/2 inches. The W5AM61M24XA coil is built on the matching 24-inch cabinet, so coil and furnace stack flush. Note that the 3/4 HP blower here is rated to 1,810 CFM against the 110,000 BTU/h model's 1 HP and 2,040 CFM — both carry the 060 designation for 5 ton service, but the larger heat exchanger changes the internal air path. Propane conversion uses the EcoTemp AGAGC8NPS01C LP kit, available from the drop-down and sold separately. Installation materials are listed under equipment add-ons.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the 24-1/2 inch D cabinet different from the 21-inch C?

Width, and what that width allows. The D cabinet accommodates a six-burner assembly and a heat exchanger sized for 107,000 BTU/h of output, which will not fit the C chassis. It is the only cabinet size in this range at 24-1/2 inches, and the matching W5AM61M24XA coil is built on the same footprint. In exchange, it needs genuine mechanical-room width rather than a retrofitted closet.

Why does the 135,000 BTU furnace use a 3/4 HP blower when the 110,000 BTU model uses 1 HP?

Blower selection follows the internal air path, not just the input rating. The D cabinet's larger heat exchanger and wider cross-section present less airflow resistance per CFM, so a 3/4 HP motor delivers its rated 1,810 CFM where the narrower C cabinet needs 1 HP to reach 2,040 CFM. Both carry the 060 designation certifying them for cooling systems up to 5 tons.

Is 107,000 BTU the maximum heat output available in this range?

Yes. The WFER135D060C at 132,000 BTU/h input and 107,000 BTU/h output is the top of the series, roughly three times the output of the smallest 44,000 BTU/h input model. For loads beyond this, the options are two furnaces, a larger commercial-class appliance, or a supplemental heat source rather than a single bigger residential unit.

Why is this system rated 14.5 SEER2 while the other 5 ton system rates 15?

The condenser is the same W5A5S60AKAWA in both. The difference is the indoor coil: this system uses the W5AM61M24XA on the 24-inch cabinet and certifies at 14.5 SEER2 under AHRI 215198699, while the 21-inch W5AM61M21XA pairing certifies at 15 SEER2. AHRI ratings are specific to each tested combination, and small differences in coil geometry and rated airflow account for the half-point spread.

What does a six-burner assembly mean for gas supply sizing?

The burner count reflects the 132,000 BTU/h input, and gas piping must be sized for that input over the developed length of the run, accounting for every other appliance sharing the line. This is the largest gas demand in the range, so an existing supply line sized for a smaller furnace frequently needs upsizing. Use the pipe sizing tables in the WFER installation instructions together with local fuel gas code.

Who typically buys the largest system in this range?

Owners of large cold-climate homes where a single system serves 3,000 square feet or more, contractors replacing oversized older equipment in high-volume spaces such as great rooms and finished basements, and buyers fitting out light commercial suites, churches, and community rooms that need substantial heat with 5 tons of cooling.
