Mueller Streamline 1-1/8" x 50' Soft Copper Refrigeration Coil, American Made, RTB11850
The Mueller Streamline RTB11850 is the largest size in this American-made copper line: 50 feet of 1-1/8" OD dead-soft refrigeration tube for big suction lines. It's built for jobs where smaller copper can't keep pressure drop in check, such as larger-tonnage residential equipment, light commercial systems, extended line runs and refrigeration piping that needs a larger vapor line. A continuous soft coil this size can replace a run of hard-drawn sticks and fittings in many routings. Like every Mueller Streamline refrigeration service tube, it's supplied bright, dried and dehydrated, and boxed individually.
Is a 1-1/8" Copper Coil the Right Size?
A 1-1/8" suction line is usually chosen for higher-capacity equipment, or for long runs where the manufacturer's tables recommend upsizing to protect capacity. This large diameter keeps vapor velocity and pressure drop where the system needs them on runs that would starve a 7/8" line.
Because 1-1/8" is a large bore, oil return deserves extra attention. Vertical suction risers may need a smaller riser size or oil traps, depending on the equipment literature. Confirm the correct suction size, riser size and trap requirements with the manufacturer's installation guide before you begin.
Ideal for: Larger residential split systems, light commercial AC, extended line-length installations and larger-diameter refrigeration suction piping.
Need a smaller diameter? Step down to the Mueller Streamline 7/8" x 50' Copper Line, RTB7850 when the equipment's piping tables call for a 7/8" suction line.
Recommended line-size applications are general guidelines only. Correct suction line and riser sizing depends on the equipment manufacturer's piping tables, system capacity, equivalent line length, vertical lift and refrigerant type. This listing is a single 50-foot Mueller Streamline coil of 1-1/8" soft copper in an individual carton. At this diameter, hard-drawn tube can mean many fittings and braze joints. A soft coil lets you sweep around obstacles with fewer connections, which saves labor and reduces possible leak points. Insulate the suction line with 1-1/8" x 3/4" Rubatex insulation tubing to finish the run.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size systems typically use a 1-1/8" suction line?
Larger-tonnage residential equipment, light commercial systems and long-line installs often call for a 1-1/8" suction line. Always use the size listed in the equipment manufacturer's piping tables.
How does the RTB11850 compare to the 7/8" RTB7850?
Both are American-made, 50' Mueller Streamline soft copper coils. The RTB11850's larger 1-1/8" bore carries more suction vapor with less pressure drop, for jobs that go beyond what a 7/8" line can handle.
Do vertical risers need special sizing with 1-1/8" copper?
Often, yes. Large suction lines can lose the velocity needed to carry oil up a vertical riser, so some manufacturers specify a smaller riser size or oil traps. Follow the equipment installation guide for riser and trap details.
Why use a soft coil instead of hard-drawn 1-1/8" tube?
A continuous 50' soft coil can be bent around obstacles, so it needs far fewer elbows and couplings than hard-drawn sticks. That means less brazing time and fewer potential leak points on the suction line.
Is the RTB11850 suitable for commercial project submittals?
Mueller provides a copper submittal, lead-free compliance documentation and copper standards information for this product line. Those documents support engineering review and commercial bid packages.
Who typically orders 1-1/8" soft copper in 50' coils?
Commercial HVAC contractors, refrigeration installers, mechanical contractors and facility maintenance departments use 1-1/8" coils for larger equipment replacements and extended line runs.
