Mini Split 24,000 BTU Daikin Oterra 21 SEER2 WiFi Cool Only System, RKF24BVJU9, FTKF24BVJU9

Two tons is where the Oterra cool-only line tops out, and the RKF24BVJU9 gets there without giving up its 21.00 SEER2 rating. Paired with the FTKF24BVJU9 wall-mounted air handler, this factory-matched system provides 22,400 BTU/h of rated cooling on R-32 refrigerant with no heat pump function and no electric heat element anywhere in the package. The inverter turns down to 7,000 BTU/h for shoulder-season loads and climbs to 26,400 BTU/h when a Gulf Coast afternoon demands it, and airflow reaches 629 CFM to cover the kind of open floor plan a single head has to serve. A backlit wireless remote is included, and adding the DKN Cloud interface brings Wi-Fi and smartphone control.

Is a 24,000 BTU Cool-Only System the Right Size?

At two tons, the question shifts from "will it keep up?" to "can one indoor head actually distribute this much air?" The RKF24BVJU9 is specified for large open spaces — combined living, dining and kitchen areas, sizable commercial floors, and warehouse offices — where the FTKF24BVJU9's 39-3/8" cabinet and 629 CFM top speed have room to throw. Rated sensible capacity is 16,660 BTU/h, and the system holds the same 21.00 SEER2 as every Oterra cool-only model beneath it while pulling 2.460 kW at rated cooling.

Load at this scale is dominated by the building envelope rather than the room count: roof and attic insulation, west and south glazing, skylights, high ceilings that stratify heat, exterior door traffic, and internal gain from kitchens, refrigeration, or a floor full of computers. Ceiling height matters twice over — it adds volume and it strands warm air above the head's throw. If the space has partitions, a mezzanine, or a long narrow shape, splitting the load across multiple indoor units usually delivers better comfort than one large head.

Ideal for: Open-concept living areas, large workshops and detached garages, restaurant floors, salons, small warehouses, church halls, and commercial suites cooled by a single head.

Need more capacity? Step up to the 30,000 BTU Daikin Polara 19 SEER2 Cool Only System RKV30AVJU9, FTXV30AVJU9, which is where the cool-only lineup moves from the Oterra series to the larger-capacity Polara platform.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual system requirements depend on insulation, window area, ambient conditions, occupancy, internal heat gain, and installation details. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The RKF24BVJU9 shares the 18K's 113 lb cabinet and 25 A circuit requirement, but the suction line grows again to 5/8", so plan on a 1/4" and 5/8" insulated copper line set and confirm your penetration sleeve will pass the larger insulated pair. Line set and 14/4 stranded communication wire are sold separately; the full ductless mini split copper lines and kits selection covers lengths from 15 to 100 feet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is rated capacity 22,400 BTU/h if this is called a 24,000 BTU system?

24,000 BTU is the nominal two-ton designation used across the industry. The submittal rates actual cooling at 22,400 BTU/h under AHRI test conditions, with a maximum output of 26,400 BTU/h when the inverter ramps up. Both figures are normal for a nominal 2-ton ductless system.

Does the RKF24BVJU9 use the same line set as the 18,000 BTU model?

No. The 18K takes a 1/2" suction line; the 24K steps up to 5/8". The liquid line stays 1/4" on both. Check the sleeve or penetration diameter before ordering, since the 5/8" insulated pair is noticeably bulkier.

Should I choose this or move up to the 30,000 BTU Polara?

The 24K is the last model in the Oterra series and holds 21.00 SEER2, while the 30,000 BTU unit switches to the Polara platform at 19 SEER2. If two tons covers the load, the Oterra is the more efficient choice; if it does not, the Polara adds real capacity.

How loud is the FTKF24BVJU9 at full fan speed?

52 dBA on high, dropping to 45, 38, and 34 dBA as the fan steps down. In practice the unit only runs at high output while pulling a hot space down; once at setpoint the inverter settles into much quieter operation.

Can this system be installed with the condenser on a rooftop?

Yes, within the 99 ft total and 66 ft vertical line limits. Rooftop placement requires proper support, vibration isolation, and a service clearance; verify the structural load path for the 113 lb unit plus its stand.

Will the 24K Oterra dehumidify a large open space effectively?

It will, provided it is not oversized for the load. The program dry function paired with the inverter's 7,000 BTU/h minimum lets the system run long, low cycles — the operating pattern that actually removes moisture — rather than blasting and shutting off.
