  • R407C can be used to COMPLETELY replace R-22 refrigerant in new or existing R-22 residential and commercial air conditioning systems as well as non-flooded evaporator chillers. Cannot be added to R-22 unless fully evacuated and recharged with 407C.
  • R-407C is a non-ozone depleting, zeotropic blend of HFC refrigerants R-32, R-125, and R-134a, and has been formulated to match the properties of R-22 closely in air conditioning applications.
  • R-407C is completely immiscible with mineral oil and will require a complete oil change to POE when retrofitting an R-22 installation.
  • Like other R22 retrofits, R-407C is a high glide blend and is therefore typically not recommended for use in a system with a flooded evaporator.

Item Specification
ASHRAE # R-407C
Class HFC
Refrigerant Type Blend
Typical Lubricant POE
Substitutes HCFC-22
Contains HFC-32 (23%), HFC-125 (25%), HFC-134a (52%)
Glide High
Notes Commercial Refrigeration: Reasonable performance match to R-22 in medium temperature refrigeration. Lower capacity in low temperature refrigeration systems. Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps: Best retrofit alternative to R-22. Close performance match with slightly higher operating pressures.
